Got my 223 savage axis out to the range today for some ammo testing. had 2 groups under .5 inch at 100 yards.

Top left is federal fusion 62 grain best 3 shot group 3/8th inch.

2nd best remington umc 55gr at .5 inch.

Bottom left is american eagle 55gr

Bottom right is pmc 55

i have an axis in 223 as well.  shoots excellent groups

 

I've been toying with the idea of buying one of these in .223, just as a range toy, MAYBE a coyote gun, but I don't really varmint hunt, so it would mostly be a range toy.  I've read that the synthetic stock is not the best...how would you two gents rate your rifles?  Accuracy aside, the actual rifle for fit and finish.  Thanks.

I have a savage 300wsm and 270. These guns are built for the field. Meant to be scratched and hunted hard with. If you want a good looking gun to show off at the range this is not the gun. But I bet it shoots just as well as the high end high finish guns on the market.

Loworange88 the synthetic stock is very flexible and cheap, the boyds is great though, I also lowered the trigger pull by changing springs. I have just over $400 into this gun with the stock and factory cheap scope. ( which holds it's zero well)

i have no complaints on my rifle.  the stock, bolt, cartridge are all up to par with me.  i shot 55 grain american eagle out of mine at about 125 yards into 1 inch groups (off a shooting bench).  I bought mine with the intentions of varmint hunting, but haven't taken it into the woods yet.  just had fun at the range.  for the price i don't thin you would regret it.

That is nice from that gun...I really wanted an Axis before I bought my 700, but I wanted a thumbhole stock. I even looked at Boyd's and they didn't make them then, but they made them for the 700. Now my 700 is at Remington and I won't even be able to hunt with it since the recall is taking a 12 week turnaround time.

I sent mines in on June 12th. Arrived back at my door steps on August 25th. For what it's worth.
