Live From The Woods 2024-2025 Edition

Recommended Posts

Out here in 6k trying out a patch of woods I've only hunted a few times. Nothing but a group of turkeys so far. Very little breeze and quiet. There is 5 in the group today so hopefully someone has some luck. Good luck to all those out.

Tried to Put my dad in the same stand I took my buck for evening hunt yesterday , he decided to sit in the double gun ladder stand 60 yards away, guess what happened, big 6 point with no brows walked right behind him at 10 yards and by the other stand, theirs no shooting lane behind the ladder. Proceeded to walk across the field and destroy a scrape.

Well , I am going to try an afternoon hunt in Mendon tomorrow . Then back to Geneseo on Saturday . Don't know if I am physically able to do an all day hunt . My back is killing me . I did order a rope crank for my Centerpoint Sniper 370 and should get it either Thursday or Friday from Ohio . That might save my back .

I need the deer to cooperate !

Wish you good luck fasteddie.  Hope you come up with a combination that works for you.

I just got off stand with no luck. I think I will skip the pm stand. The temperature is coming up fast. That's ok. I still have some work to do outside here on the homestead.

Buddy had two bucks chasing a doe in circles at 10 am here in 7s. to thick for a shot. Ill be in PA Thursday and Friday, I did not realize 12 year old's can crossbow hunt now in NY so I'm buying my son a tag now for sat. I'm gonna make him be patient for a nice one cause were set on meat, I gave my whole buck away to a few families.  Have a family lined up for the next deer as well. Very fortunate to have many properties to hunt.

Sick of this warm weather. On my jog this morning I had a doe and buck bedded together in goldenrod. Doe jumped up first and ran he followed right behind. Instead of going 30 yard and into the woods they crossed the goldenrod over the road and into a cut corn field. Stupid is as stupid does. Nothing tonight.

Sat out in a blind in Mendon this afternoon for 5 hours . It turned out to be a waste of time as I saw nothing . When I got to my car , I looked across the road to a neighbor's field . Saw a couple bucks and several doe . Then as I was driving north on Rt 64 towards Mendon center , a couple cars flashed their lights at me . Just before the Golf Course parking lot , I saw 3 doe in the dithc waiting to cross the road . Bummer !

Yesterday afternoon,  As soon as the thermals dropped, deer moved. My grandson by my side. I doe bleated a 3 year old right up the blow down, blind we were sitting behind. Glad we got the opportunity to experience it together.

In all of my deer hunting years, I have never had a  3 year old buck this close to me.  He was working his way around the rear of us. I had to move my lite phone back and forth to back him off. I had my bow in hand, and would have shot, if he became to aggressive . Eventually, he walked out of the field. This time of the year, these bucks mean business. Be careful!

Gonna hunt one of my favorite spots in PA tomorrow morning. Cruising spot with a scrape that gets pounded this week every year, right at bottom of a hill that sits behind the town. After the rain today and cold front it should be a crazy good sit.

Real slow around here. Hope change in temps gets them going. FYI I read an article about this 16 year moon phase that splits the rut. 1st rut last week of October. 2nd rut week before Thanksgiving. I can tell you this. That third week in October there were 6 different bucks hit by cars between Howard and Bath. 10 minute ride. Since then nothing. I'm real interested how it plays out this year.
