I usually hunt with a .243 for deer and have killed several .

  I have a chance to buy a .270 cheap .

I do have a bad shoulder and that’s part of the reason I picked the .243

How much harder does the .270 kick ?

And is it that much better for deer

Myself I hunted with a 270 for years before our property grew to bigger fields with 400yd shots frequently needed so jumped up to a 300Wby Mag. The 270 will have a little bigger punch to the shoulder then the 243 for sure. I would guess you would handle the difference in punch unless the shoulder is in real rough shape.  Sight the 270 in with the lead sled so you feel nothing as you get it to tack driving and with the excitement of the hunt/shot you won’t notice the little kick.

My brother-in-law hunts his deer with a .243, and has never had a problem getting the deer down. Of course he is deep into competition rifle shooting and always hits the deer exactly where he wants to.

I hunt with a .270 and cannot find any significant recoil. Does my .270 kill the deer any deader than my Brother-in-law's .243?.......Probably not.

It’s not so much feeling the recoil , it’s the damage and after effect of what the increase recoil is doing to the shoulder

Maybe you can try it at the bench with the sled and get an idea on how much more pressure there is from the 243 and see. If not a crazy amount maybe even an added recoil pad or some kind of pad on the shoulder under the coat. Not worth any damage to jump up for sure.
