Ha-ha-ha .... I stepped away from this thread with the thought that someone asked a question, and there were already several valid answers given. I thought it was done. Then today I happened to notice that this one is on page 12. I hadn't realized that it had moved from a semi-simple question and answer to an "I hate guns that don't look friendly" topic. Or is that a "Nobody needs to use any guns that I don't use" topic? Whatever .... it certainly took a strange turn ....lol.

You really have to pay attention around here. These threads morph in a heartbeat ..... lol.

By the way, for anyone who cares, I couldn't care less if you hunted deer with a zip-gun. I am getting real tired of laws being passed based on how evil a gun looks. makes no sense to me, and gun rights are not really something to be messing with so arbitrarily.

I agree with ya Doc.

My two cents, for what it's worth. I don't care if another hunter dresses in the latest and greatest Scent Loc camo,or runs through the woods in a loin cloth. As long as it is legal,I don't care if you kill a deer with a rock or a howitzer. And I don't care what the rock or howitzer looks like either.

I'll hunt my way,and you hunt yours. As long as it's within the law,I don't care how another hunter goes about getting their game. We are all individuals, with different tastes, opinions, backgrounds and preferences. But we are also hunters and gun owners and united we should stand.

the question was with regards to why the military uses them. So get your facts straight too please.

The military does not use AR15 rifles, havent since Armalite sold the rights to Colt and Colt redesigned it as the M16. The AR15 is a civilian, semi auto version of the M16. Better check your facts, which brings me back to what I was saying about the twisting of things to support your argument.

they're all the same to some people, it's all based on looks..........it could be a single shot that looks like an "assault weapon" and it would still generate the same feeling to some.

When the government decides to ban possessing a rifle like the AR-15, it is the duty of ALL gun owners to stand up and fight that ban.

If you are a gun owner that does NOT stand up against that ban, in every conceivable way, you are part of the reason guns get banned!

So switching topics from ARs and hunting:

Do you guys ever wonder where laws come from? Think about OSHA regs.  90% of them exists because of some idiot did something dumb at work. Think about driving laws. Where do they come from?

If you are ok with a hunter using a howitzer and I understand it's tongue and cheek, realize that eventually they will regulate it out because someone will take it too far. Think about why we have setback laws, several counties with shotgun only ettc. Many of these laws came about because some irresponsible idiot ruined it for the rest of us.

I disagree sometimes when the comment is made "As long as it's legal". We've had many ethics debates on this site, but the reason why is because there are still many unwritten laws that if we're not careful will become written. Again, I'll point to the idiots open carrying their ARs in target.

I assumed it was obvious we were talking about combat style rifles being used in hunting. Everything from any civilian legal bullpop, m4, etc. to even SMG's like the p90. All legal and relevant to the discussion on what the pros and cons are of using them in the deer words versus grandpa's traditional bolt action rifle.

oh, make no mistake, if there was no magazine capacity restriction you would definitely see guys with fully loaded 30 round magazines out deer hunting...........but I've seen irresponsible hunters out there regardless of the weapon or season, once again it boils down to being ethical and responsible.

Again with the Bolt comparison. How about Grandpa's Remington 742 in '06?

5 shots

semi automatic

magazine fed

other than cosmetics, what's the actual difference?

and all I guess I'm trying to spark is that we self police ourselves. I see it here all the time. We come down on guys for taking poor shots, and then someone else defends the poor shot. I believe gun owners and hunters should self police, and a lot of that starts with our youth. I commend those who are out there mentoring. I can't wait till my 2 boys are old enough and I personally have started recently working with the boyscouts.

Again, separate from the thread topic, but when someone in our community is doing something legal but yet may be irresponsible we owe it to ourselves to call them out on it before we're stuck with more setback, dawn to dusk, tagging and gun restrictions. Why do we even tag? because not every hunter can control themselves.

So in the context of this thread, are you saying that hunting with an AR because of how it looks is irresponsible and we should come down on those that hunt with one? Or is it all semi's that you feel are irresponsible?

Like I said last page, I'm done with that topic. I refuse to have a discussion when someone like the OP repeatably resorts to personal attacks and childish tactics.

I will add this, and I'm sure I'll be attacked for it.....but, pre Safe Act, Pre Cuomo, I have had a few days at the range ruined by guys rolling in with their duffle bags full of high capacity magazines and their automatic weapons shooting as fast and furious as they could with brass flying everywhere with zero consideration for the guy next to them. I would normally pack up and go home when these guys would show up.......so, I can fully understand how someone could easily bring this image with them when they see guys show up to go deer hunting with what is percieved as the same gear.

So then what about a Remington 700? They are the same as the M24, M40 and a few others.

BTW, there is no civilian version of the M4. Its a Class II weapon, so unless you go through the lisencing and other hoops to own automatics and SBRs, you arent gonna get one. Bullpups are not a particular rifle, its a style of stock and/or action combo. You really should do just a little looking into things before you start flinging poo on the wall.

Automatics? I assume you mean semi autos. The guys that bring them to the club pay the same dues as everyone else. Sure, some are not very considerate, but Id say the vast majority are. Plenty of guys out there with braked 300 Win Mags and 7mm Mags that pop off at the range, giving you a good scare at the other end of the shooting house.
