Grizz1219
Had 3 - 4 cameras out since the beginning of August.... best buck I have on camera is a 5 pt... getting anywhere from 70 - 150 camera triggers a week... one camera set to take 2 pics had 750 pics in 2 weeks... But nothing older than a 1.5 year old.... No DMP tags for this particular farm to boot. I try to stay out of the Antler restriction posts, I've always felt it should be 1 buck tag for the year... but honestly... I've let so many small bucks walk on this farm and have this to show for my efforts??? Something needs to change...
moog5050
Its early Grizz. If you have doe around, the bucks will come. Bachelor groups are just starting to break up. We have one parcel that never heats up with good bucks until late Oct, but they come every year. One other parcel has good bucks all summer and not much come season. Hang in there and stay positive. If you are feeling a bit down, just look at your trophy wall. lol
Grizz1219
LOL.... I lost the farm I took that 152" to a lease... But yes... I know.. just itchy trigger fingers... I'll fill my doe tag archery then wait it out on that farm.... Got another place I can go and fill a quick DMP tag on to fill the freezer... Then I wait... G-Man
I never worry about not seeing a good deer they shoe up in october, the only buck I want to see is when I have my bow in hand, can't eat a photo
Paula
I am in a new place this year. I have had 1buck and a couple does and one huge big fat raccoon. I'm am not too worried because it's early and they always filled all tags.
coonhunter
Griz, letting them small bucks walk just builds character. I gets easier over time. I about had a heart attack this year when a bruiser showed up in velvet. I usually don't see anything in my good bow spots until late in october or even november. Some years it seems to take forever for a good buck to show up, but they always come to the does sooner or later. I used to keep track of how many bucks I pass in an area that is traditionally shoot the first buck you see, but don't even bother any more. I just study them as best I can to see if they come back the next year. I have no problem or feelings of failure from shooting only does some years. I will say that it is due to be my year, as I have had to settle for a couple pinchy or scraggly old bucks for my last couple.
Grizz1219
I haven't shot a small buck in years.... Sadly.... I've been passing them but others on the property don't... so I fill my tags with does.... But every once in a while I see a good one.. Maybe this year will be the year... chrisw
I haven't shot a small buck in years.... Sadly.... I've been passing them but others on the property don't... so I fill my tags with does.... But every once in a while I see a good one.. Maybe this year will be the year...I'm in the same boat... It is very frustrating. I haven't shot a buck in 3 years, I've let no less than a dozen 1.5yr old bucks walk in that time, I keep telling myself it'll pay off eventually. Its hard to let deer walk only to watch the neighbors kill them but the way I see it, if I kill them then they have 0 chance of making it. Plus its more gratifying now that I'm trying my hand at self filming to get good video and let them live. Almost like shooting them, just nothing to chew on later! But that's why I shoot does...it'll happen. I too hope this is my year as I have some great deer on camera. agross
My situation is the complete opposite. Set up the trail cameras over two small plots and get plenty of regular shots of bucks 100 to 120 (shooters in my book) late august through early October then they just disappear. This year I am going up this opening weekend to see if any are lingering around but now have to deal with a potential hurricane. Oooh the joys of deer hunting.
monkeyman2269
I have not shot a buck in 3 years also pass tons of 1.5s and some 2.5s. It will pay off
