Big Indian
The harness I have been using for the past few years is the one that you get in the box when you buy a treestand, I'm looking to get a new one ,I saw and tried on a "muddy" last nite. Only thing I did not like was the plastic chest buckle ( did not look sturdy). Anyone have a harness they like and would recommend? Or have experience with Muddy product and would recommend that one Thank you in advance
WesternNY
HSS Hunter Safety System. I have the elite. LET EM GROW
I USE THE HSS BOWHUNTER SERIES, AND I LOVE IT... IT DOES TEND TO GET IN THE WAY IF YOU WEAR IT ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR JACKET. I JUST WEAR IT UNDER MY JACKET AND IT WORKS FINE.
WNYBuckHunter
I use a Gorilla Exo-Tech G3. Love it. They dont make that one anymore though. I really like the Treespider Speed harness, it will be the one I buy when I replace the G3, or just buy a second one. http://www.robinsonoutdoors.com/shop/tree-spider-speed-harness.html BTW, dont worry about the plastic chest strap buckle. The chest strap doesnt support weight, its just there to keep the top of the harness snug on your chest.
Buckmaster7600
Muddy, the chest buckle only holds the shoulder straps from sliding off your body it's not load bearing. I have used the hss, spyder and gorilla and I think my muddy is the most comfortable and easiest to put on.

The_Real_TCIII
Rock climbing harness is the best change I've made in years as far as hunting. It's much cheaper and easier to use, much less restrictive, and from everything I've read it's safer

The_Real_TCIII
Some guys make it more sophisticated than it needs to be in my opinion, I have the tether from my old harness, I loop it around the tree and carabiner it to the harness

Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk No its great, more range of movement in fact. The tether doesnt end up across your neck if you have to turn a long way

fasteddie
I stole this pic from another site but this is close to what I use The way that's fastened with waist and legs it seems like if the guy fell , he could end upside down .
jjb4900
Yes but at your waist and not up at your shoulder blades my question is, if you were to fall with that setup, being that it attaches around your waist, there is no guarantee that you will be right side up if you fall.....is there?
WNYBuckHunter
Rock climbers have been using those harnesses forever. I would think if theres an issue with hanging upsid down, falling out of them, etc, youd hear about it and they would use something else. jjb4900
Rock climbers have been using those harnesses forever. I would think if theres an issue with hanging upsid down, falling out of them, etc, youd hear about it and they would use something else. but do they have other ways they are attached to the rock? I don't know that's why I was asking, and I would think that the average rock climber is in just a tad bit better shape then the average hunter....most hunters have a way of stopping themselves from hitting the ground, but no plan as what to do once they are hanging there, whether it be right side up or upside down.....just a thought. The_Real_TCIII
There are lots of threads on AT with rock climbers, arborists, linemen etc discussing their use, you don't end up upside down and you do end up facing the tree
dbHunterNY
I've used different higher end ones and right now I've got a Muddy Safeguard. best I've used to date. I will say I use it with a rope and prussic knot style tree "strap" which is important to me versus fixed length seat belt junk.
