maytom
Personally, I have had luck right off the roost, till almost the noon hour some years. What are some of your thoughts on this for your hunt success? (I cut this chart from an old Turkey & Turkey Hunting magazine years ago because I thought it was interesting to view).
Water Rat
Statistically , I've been given up too early. Most of my success has been at fly down. Gonna have to try harder this year due to low turkey populations in my area.
Bowguy 1
I agree highest percentage is right off roost
Pygmy
Back in the day I killed many of my birds just off the roost. I did a lot of my hunting before work in the morning and my goal was always to be close enough to the roost to work the bird as soon as he flew down. Now that I have retired, my strategy has changed. Rather than crowd the roost and try to kill the bird when he first flies down, I hunt areas where I expect the gobbler to come looking for hens later in the morning, after the flurry of activity that takes place right after flydown. Now I'm killing most of my birds between 9:00 am and noon. I'm spending much less time running all over the woods and much more time sitting in a comfortable chair in a popup blind.
landtracdeerhunter
I'd like to see placement of the hunter, in relationship to the kill times. Hunting style plays a key role in bird harvest. Then there's scouting.
The_Real_TCIII
I've never had much luck later in the morning
Chris B
I've always had the best luck either right off the roost, or around 8:30-9:30.
Nomad
I'm not much of a turkey Hunter , but my friend who lives right behind my woods kills Toms every year. He hits the woods after he gets up and eats , usually around 9:00 .
turkeyfeathers
Don't think I have a best time window. I've killed birds early and right up until the noon bell ringer. I can say that I'm sitting at o'dark thirty and listen to the woods wake up. I'd be afraid to go out later and wonder if I missed anything happening. And nothing better than having the woods come alive at dawn.
Nomad
I try to like turkey hunting , but getting up earlier then in deer season to sit in a green , ,buggy , sometimes hot woods does not appeal much to me . I do,like that I don't have to shower first and can drink strong coffee while sitting here .
mbucks27
Always had the best luck from first light until about 8:30 and then from 10:30 until 12 in between we refer to that as dead time
G-Man
I never hunt past 8, I get my.bird roosted the night before and get it in the am..so statically I c ant say I get more birds at any one time because I only hunt 1x.
Uncle Nicky
Strangely, not a whole lot of luck right off the roost, seems like they usually catch up with the hens and drift off. I've had my best luck from 10:00-quitting time.
jjb4900
I've learned that I usually packed it in too soon....last few birds have been after 11:
