you can get one buck with your regular season tag. if you choose to hunt bow you get an either sex tag....add in ML and you get another tag good for antlerless only.....or visa versa ;)

There is a possibility to shoot 3 bucks in one year if you have a hold over license from the previous bow season and fill it up North prior to Oct 1st.

And let me throw in this wrinkle for you.....if you bow/ML hunt your regular season buck tag is good in the late season and can also be used as an antlerless tag....so if you bow ...ML...and gun hunt...you could tag out and fill all 3 with antlerless.

You can actually shoot more than two legal bucks with current year tags (no carryover) in NY in the right circumstances. It's not common because of land access, but it can be done. I've met a few who are lucky enough to take three bucks in a season on one year's tags.

Add in the previous year deal in the NZ, and you are up to 4. It may even be possible for more, but the circumstances are likely not very common.

Bonus DMP/Bonus Permit.

I believe there are some areas down toward the city and possibly the island where additional buck tags are available.

Using last years tag this year is not technically true. You have to use it before the end of the season - Oct 1st starts the new season and it is then no longer good.

You put a racked buck on a DMP?

Hunter's can put a 170" or a 200" or a 100" or any buck of their liking on a Bonus DMP/Bonus Permit where they are issued. Completely 100 percent legal.

I think you may be confusing a DMP from a Bonus DMP/Bonus Permit.

They're not buck tags persay, they are acutally Bonus DMP/Bonus Permits - either sex, not just for a buck.

You are right about that. Not technically the new season.

Bonus DMPs  Bonus DMPs will be issued to increase hunter participation and deer harvest in four Wildlife Management Units (1C, 3S, 4J and 8C). "Bonus Permits" will be available to hunters who take an antlerless deer in one of those units on a Deer Management Permit (DMP) or a Bonus DMP for that unit. Bonus DMPs may be used only in the Unit for which they are issued and will be valid for a deer of either sex. Bonus DMPs that are used to take an antlerless deer may be replaced with another "Bonus DMP". Bonus DMPs used to take an antlered deer will not be replaced. No fee will be charged for the Bonus DMP. Bonus DMPs are not transferable.

To obtain a Bonus DMP, hunters must comply with the following application requirements:

  •
  • The head (NOT frozen) or whole carcass of an antlerless deer taken on a Deer Management Permit or Bonus DMP for one of the above WMUs, and the completed DMP Report Tag (the smaller part) must be brought by the successful hunter to the appropriate checking location listed below.

  • Upon completion of a biological check and collection of harvest information, a Bonus DMP for the same unit will be issued.

I need some hunting land in 8C. 8)

Imagine if you had land in 8c and another one of those four units...that's one bow/mz either sex tag, one reg buck tag, and one each for the two Bonus units.

That's four bucks in one season! Chances are low for all that to happen, but it's possible. I know one guy who stopped gun hunting because he had two honey holes within 8c and he drops 2-3 nice bucks a year there.
