Nut identification

Post a pic with my turkey pic other day . Any idea what these are ? Crop was totally stuffed with them. There are zero nuts on property I hunt so they must be eating them elsewhere. And I've love to know where on surrounding property they are as assuming deer eat them too and could look for a trail on property I can hunt leading to them.

That's a husk that falls away but TF says they are way smaller than chestnuts

What is the consistency of them when you try to cut them? Are they hard like a nut? Are they even nuts at all? I have seen oak galls that look similar to some of them.

To me they look like rose hips.

Cut one open and take a macro photo. I'm not about to guess. Too little information.

Not enough red for rose hips I don't think. I'll cut one open when I get home from work  and post a pic. I'm completely baffled .

Skunk cabbage seeds I'm pretty sure . Which makes sense as they are right near cam I shot bitd near.  I've never noticed the seeds before though.
