Fletch
As I sit here freezing in the stand I am thinking my son is not going to be able to sit long on sub 30 mornings. Do any of you use these in box blinds, pop up blinds or just a brush blind? How do you like and what about odor? The more comfortable he is the better chance to get him his first deer.Back when I started I so wanted to be out I'd be froze solid before I came in. I think it warped me to believing winter hunting came with a bit of cold torture to enjoy, what doesn't kill me makes me stronger lol!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Steuben Jerry
I use one in an enclosed box blind (with the windows open). I don't notice any odor. Takes the chill off for sure. Now if I can just get my buddies to bring fresh propane cylinders when they use the old ones, that'd be great!
turkeyfeathers
I have a golf cart heater that uses propane but afraid to use it do to smell. Hopefully new gear for my daughter will keep her warm this year. Last year I did schlep my zero sleeping bag for her crawl into in our blind. That worked well. Always wonderd if they notice them at first that they would not come near it unless its been there for a few days in the same spot .
Will_C
My family has them in all their stands in PA and I use them when I use their stands late in the season. These are permanent stands, overlooking wide open fields, open hardwoods. I have shoot several deer out of them, never noticed the smell, and enjoy hunting in my shirt. The only problem is one I fell asleep and melted my socks!
Cabin Fever
I've been using the Mr. Heater Buddy Heater for ~10 years in my tower stand. Like you said, it helps keep the kids (AND myself!) in the stand longer and it makes a freezing cold day more tolerable. I even went a step further and bought one of those single propane burners that uses the same size tank. Great for warming up a can of soup, hot cocoa, coffee, a sandwich, or whatever! Sure hits the spot on those windy, rainy, snowy, bitter cold days!

I have carried one to back of bean field at 2 in the afternoon .Set it up in the field.About 40 yards from wood line facing same wood line.Only safe shot there was do to road and houses. Set in blind from 2 till little after 3 when got deer. I use pop up a lot as last minute sets in areas that I would otherwise be wide open. Never had a animal spook from them. Have they looked at them? yep. Even had a big doe walk right to it and stick her head in and look right at me. She feed arms length from blind for some time before walking off. Turkey do not even give them a second look. Some times I think the animals are looking right through them. Wouldn't surprise me if one walked right into it some time. like a person walking into a glass door
ATbuckhunter
They work and work pretty well, but what you need to do is keep the windows open for good ventilation. These products can and do produce carbon monoxide (CO) which im sure we all know is incredibly deadly. As long as everything is well ventilated you should be fine.
fasteddie
I have a Coleman Catalytic heater that I use in real cold weather when using a blind . It uses the small tanks .
Jeremy K
Heater buddy has an auto shut off if the CO level is too high ,my thought was the hot air and smell would rise so high in the air especially from a tree stand that they wouldn't really smell til it was really far down wind.
mlammerhirt
I have a Coleman Catalytic heater that I use in real cold weather when using a blind . It uses the small tanks . I use the same Heater....bought it for ice fishing and in a two man fold over shanty this heater will raise the temp to t-shirt type temps.I have also used it in a box blind and it takes the chill off but didn't do much to keep the feet warm...in an elevated tower stand I use it sometimes to keep the hands warm.Overall nice to have in the woods on those god awful cold mornings. Gotta remember to turn it off and give it time to cool before heading out....it will melt the hell out of anything it touches for about 20 minutes after shutting down.Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
