turkeyfeathers
Don't normally see them around here but just spied one 1/2 mile from house. Went to go get gas and saw one soaring pretty close to creek. Where they just stocked trout lol. See a bunch up north in Messina along the St Lawrence river when we visit a friend They have nesting platforms up there and we see them quite often. Around here we see them every 5-6 years or so by dumb luck. Impressive raptor Wooly or Alloutdoors, any good pics you could post ? wooly
I've only seen one here my entire life about 2 or 3 years ago. He hung around my neighbors pond for a few days in a row before he disappeared. I only managed to get a few grainy shots of him just before dark, but nothing good enough for me to save for the albums. A few days after he vanished from the pond I saw him a few miles down the road on a telephone pole again just before dark down near the park. We've had quite a few new species of critters appearing around here the past couple of years.
Doewhacker
I snapped a few pics with my flip phone, not bad for a ten year old Motorola! Ok ok. These are my Dads. He does this kind of stuff for fun, every single day.
Doewhacker
He has plenty more too but he puts his name in them and I can't crop them out. I'm not sure if he has warrants so I won't post them. Edited April 11, 2017 by Doewhacker
kpkot
So Im not very good with bird identification and this post confirms what I saw a few years ago. I was working out near the finger lakes and was driving some back roads and on top of a phone pole I saw a huge nest just like above post. I saw the head of the osprey and took some photos ill have to try and look for. They are on my old laptop.

That is what it appears like..I saw a video last year of that happening...the eagle came soaring in and took a fledgling size osprey off it's nest.
Doewhacker
It was a battle for the nest, the Osprey prevailed. He had one today or yesterday where it had a trout in its grasp. Scratch that, I'll have to ask him but I think that is two different nests. Edited April 12, 2017 by Doewhacker Correction

NonTypical
They are very plentiful down here on the island. Last year on my creek, I counted more than 20 pairs nesting. I have also caught a few trout over the years with claw marks in them.
