Most recoil in any gun you've shot ?

Looks like I learned something new today. Always thought you didn't want a choked barrel with a slug

You don't. But it's still been done :) Pretty sure I shot some rifled slugs through my full choke last fall just playing around, though they say an improved cylinder gives best accuracy on those (which I suppose is still choked a bit). I just forgot to swap the choke.

One of the best shooting smooth bores I had was a 12 gauge pump that was a fixed modified choke. I think it was made by Smith and Wesson for Montgomery Wards. The thing just rattled from the wear when it was given to me.

Out of stock.......close, but no cigar.

I knew you were going to try and snag me on a technicality. Well played sir. Regardless of price thats a pretty gun. If I had the money I'd buy it for the hell of it just to display it and take to the range

"Technicality"?

I'd consider it a pretty important detail.

24 hours from now it could be on your mantel.........or not.

Only gun I ever flinched on or had to second guess wanting to shoot was my dads old mossberg 500 with 3 or 3 1/2 inch slugs. That thing was just down right brutal. Only gun that ever gave me scope eye too. First time I shot it I was 7. Didn't shoot it again until I was 10! Haha. That thing pounded the hell out of your shoulder.
Back before our camp went to rifle, everyone would go to camp one weekend in September or real early October to sight in the slug guns. Everyone took turns on each other's guns on sighting them in because no one wanted to shoot the dang things more than twice in a row before taking a break haha. Helped spread the pain out a bit lol!

I've shot 50 cal rifles and they had some thump but not nearly as painful as those old slug guns. Never shot any safari caliber guns but I'd like to at some point.

My truck has 400hp as well, difference is my truck doesn't cause pain when I put my foot in it.

Pain via gas prices. My point being we can overkill it, be fine with the overkill, but rarely is it not at the expense of something else to do so.

I'm surprised by how many of you guys shoot 3.5's for turkeys, not worth it to me they are just brutal. I have never wounded a turkey and thought if I had a 3.5 he would have died.

It is sort of over kill, but as the topic asked.. and many others shared in agreement.. the 3.5" is a common load with a ton of recoil out of the right(or wrong) gun.. .

I have yet to wound a turkey.. maybe its the 3.5"?

Just sayin..

I would probably shoot 4" shells if they made them, just to get more shot in the air to make up for my poor shooting abilities.

Wing shooting I guess it would make the biggest difference on 3" to 3.5" to 4" if they made them. Stationary targets like a turkey noggin their is a slim margin given to 3.5" vs 3"   You get a longer shot string a with longer shell. The front end of the shot string is either on its mark or not. The remainder of shot is simply follow up shot which may cover small gaps in the pattern.  I shoot them in my turkey gun because it likes them ,my auto sucks up all the recoil and simply ,why not.   2.75" to 3.5" loads I've shot birds with were equally as dead.

3 " Lightfields in my 870 aren't much of a joy to shoot but years ago I started to hunt gun season with primarily ML all the way through.
