leavinc
So I've been lurking on this forum for awhile and finally decided to join. I really love the friendliness of all the members and all of the info and hunting stories.I'm 29 years old and moved to NY a couple years ago when I left the Navy. I currently live in Saratoga county in Ballston Spa. I really don't do any hunting, but I am extremely interested. I hunted a long long time ago with my dad when I was a teenager in Wisconsin where I grew up and haven't hunted since. I love the outdoors, shooting, and especially fishing. Since moving here I've been looking for someone to mentor me on hunting because alot of that was lost when I was younger because of my family moving around alot as I was growing up.I'm willing to learn as much as I can from anyone who's willing to teach me. I've read books, watched countless videos, and researched everything as much as I can. I still feel a little intimidated by going by myself. It's like driving. You can read books and watch videos on how to drive, but you never really learn to drive until you do it.I hope I can make a few friends on the forum and maybe even meet new hunting buddies.Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
Nomad
Welcome and good luck . You're not near me so I can't help you out. Try joining a local gun club and over time cultivate some friendships . Look for land to,hunt and just set out on your own, others have done it, heck who knows yo might met fellow, hunters at the parking lot of some state land ..... I've met a few friendly people there, but haven't found anyone willing to let me tag along with them.I know hunting circles can be very tight and the last thing I want to do is sound rude or pushy. I'm pretty easy going and I've had some cool conversations with people at the range just swapping stories.Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

ATbuckhunter
Welcome to the site! I would suggest you just get out there your self and learn as you go. You definitely are going about it the most rational way, but like you said it can be hard to find some one that is willing to mentor you. The great thing about this site is almost everyone here is more than willing to share any knowledge we may have on a subject. The learning curve may be steeper when your out there learning by your self, but sometimes that's what you have to do. Buckmaster7600
I'm from just a little north of you. You have endless state land less than an hr north of you. Sounds like you already have a gun. Get your license and start walking through the the woods and learn as you go. You need any help along the way there is a wealth of knowledge on here.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Robhuntandfish
welcome and best of luck! Maybe even ask a couple neighbors with small parcels of land for hunt permission to get you started. I have two places i hunt that are 9 acres and 12 acres. A good place to hunt is always the toughest. And by good i dont mean loaded with boone and crocket bucks, just a place you know you can go out and have for your own etc. Dont know if you bow hunt but the local bowshop is a good place to get to know some hunters in the area. But would suggest getting into bowhunting cause its great! Glad your getting back into hunting!
