Now the governor is sprouting casinos up all over the state because of the lawsuit with the Native Americans. Foul! The only ones complaining about more casinos are the native American casino operators that don't want the competition don't kid your self I go to Florida all the time and the casino tribes there pull the same old propaganda to try and stop casinos outside of there reservations . That being said if I put a casino for example in a hell hole like Detroit dont expect it to change much over night because the bad element that made it a hell hole in the first place still lives there with there gangs and drug dealing . I don't think Catskills has those problems. So a casino will work out better there then other places .

tommyc50
yeah everywhere they put casinos the locals got nothing . When they propose the casino the state and local goverments swear its the answer to all our problems. I remember when i was a kid and new york state lottery came out and they said oh its going to the schools no it didnt. In my area the resort world cut a deal with nyc and nys under the table. The construction jobs were from out of state and no unions [which is hypocritical cause there's a law that anyone doing business with the city has to be unionized oh they ignored that]. I talked to a cocktail waitress and said wow i cant get a cup of coffee and she say's yeah they're cutting back and dont want us to give drinks away that much. wow the money that place makes they are cheap like that. Oh and on rockaway blvd the only business that are making out are the pawn shops that popped up.

I really am not too educated in this topic, but the Racino about 5 miles away is not too popular, but someone else thinks its a life changer to put a new casino up? Also, I feel like Monticello wouldn't benefit really at all, I think Rock Hill would benefit more, because its the last exit before Resorts world....I think the gas stations might be the real beneficiaries of the Resorts World, but what do I know. Just assumptions. Oh, and I say Rock Hill because I feel like its way more populated below the new casino toward Rock Hill, and Middletown etc, than above the casino, Monticello, and above toward Liberty etc. Edited February 11, 2018 by Bionic

I thought about flipping a couple houses in Rock Hill because of this. Local business people I speak to aren't that optimistic about the long term future for the casino.

I hear ya, again, I probably shouldn't add my thoughts in such topics because I am not too knowledgeable on the subject, but yeah, notice how the gas station in Rock Hill dozed it down, and is building much larger. I have even heard other rumorsof a McDonald's, and other rumors for Rock Hill, but unsure of the truth behind it. Also, kind of ironic, that the Rock Hill diner burned up about a month ago. Me personally, I don't think it will help the area enough to notice a change. Like I said, there is a casino 5 miles away already for years. I personally live about 20 miles north west, but commute through to Middletown. I think the area needs different people living there, to make a noticeable change to the area. Money wont change the area positively if its not used wisely with a positive mindset. Take a ride through the area, and I think you will understand my point. At least it will be a nice place for the locals to go not much up there.
Robhuntandfish
i live right near two of them. Turning stone is more of a resort and casino for sure . Nice golf courses. concerts, events etc. The racino (run by NYS) at Vernon downs is a dump. Its almost been bankrupt twice now. The state should not be running casinos. This should be done by private industry as all business should be. The state cant even run themselves without corruption and making it a mess, what makes them think they can run a casino. If they want a casino open it up for business to be run by the private sector.

Lotteries also fall under this category.
Doewhacker
The one they opened in Schenectady missed the budgeted profits by a large margin. Duh, it’s a crappy area with nothing to offer. Casinos always work as advertised, just look at Atlantic City. Haha

airedale
Don't go a lot but me and the and the wife hit the Turning Stone in Verona every now and then more for entertainment and dining than any gambling. Attended some pretty good concerts, Beach Boys, Chicago, Little River Band and a big favorite of mine the Moody Blues, they have held a couple of a Sportsman shows that were OK. Mostly I like eating some of the fancy food with names I can not pronounce they have. One time a friend of mine and his wife wanted to go and play Bingo so me and the wife tagged along, I ended up winning over $1300.00, never played again. All and all I have a pretty good time when we go, staying away from those money sucking machines helps a lot in that respect. Al

The golf courses are amazing. The one that is PGA is way outa my price range but when I worked there i have been on the course. Incredible. The other ones by the casino I have played them all. In October there is a 1/2 price discount if you play after 2 pm. So me and a buddy played them a few times. Also there is a 9 hole there that is the toughest ever. Dont need a driver for it but you better be on with your irons or its a lost ball for sure. Turning stone is def shinier and better put together for events than some others I have seen around. They also have some high fence hunting if you want, can get a 200 inch buck for like $10,000 lol. They also have a salmon fishing lodge is pulaski. It is one of the best that i have been to in a casino and trust me I been to whole lot of casinos around the country and out of the country as well the food more important then the gambling in those places at least when you lose your balls off you get a good meal out of the trip . If the place has crap food and is dump i Will not go back actually to any casino . Edited February 12, 2018 by Storm914

corydd7
I've been going to that track for 20 years but it's also a couple miles away. The track has been a lost cause for the last 15 years. I know drivers, trainers, and owners of horses, besides that there are about the same 20 guys there everyday. It's like soul food to me though I still enjoy going. Hearing people make comments the first time they go is pretty funny. That's it!? Is a common one

Well once the food went to crap I lost interest In going up there when pretty much I can go to a.c. or foxwoods or the ones in PA all around the same distance from me . And have much more to offer. If they don't make it nice like those other places . Once people go once and the word gets out that it is a dump they will loss money . Like the track Edited February 12, 2018 by Storm914
