Love looking at vintage hunting photos and art, some hard looking folks back in the good old days and many depended on hunting so they could eat. An old timer that grew up in the depression  days said

I used to write them down with pellet gun kills. I was around 200-300 when I stopped keeping track. Add in the shotgun kills and probaly north of 500. Haven’t killed a squirrel in 20+ years tho

You'll shoot 500 squirrels just for the fun of it but you won't kill a doe for breakfast sausage?

Not when it cost me a chance at a buck. Every minute wasted tracking, gutting, dragging and driving to butcher is time i’d rather see Nothing in hopes of a buck. Venison is a great change up, but cannot replace beef IMO. It’s not elk
