steve863
http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/30409.html Hot off the presses. Looks like they are cutting back in many WMU's.
Doewhacker
Thats it I'm finding a new spot to hunt where there are permits!
steve863
Yeah, I wish it was that easy to find a new place in the Catskill region. In western NY they are giving them away like candy. My area has a LOW probability this year which is worse than the last two which was MEDIUM. I think even my preference points from last year may not help me get one. We won't have any does to whack it seems.
Doewhacker
There are none in our main spot in 4S, but plenty acrossed the line in 4T. I see there is a high chance to the south of my home area too so I guess I need to stay home to hunt some. Or Steve, one of the nice guys out in the western part of the state could offer us a place to fill a permit..hint hint haha

steve863
This is funny. Those of you who pass up doe after doe waiting for Mr. Big to come around are guaranteed doe tags, while me and Doewhacker who have no qualms about dropping the first deer we see to fill our freezers will get JACK. End result= NO deer will get shot. LOL. I think the state needs to give doe tags to those who actually WANT to kill deer first. You fellas don't need tags just to look at them. Steve, if they had mandatory reporting of your success filling your DMP, they would know who to issue DMP next year. If you don't fiil it then no DMP the next Year. This way permits would go to those who fill them. I am in 4W, only issuing DMP if you have preference points and no second permits. Sure hope that I have my bow either sex tag or I am shit out of luck. What will we do next year? I have seen more does the past few years, now they limit them.Dave
steve863
I hear you, Dave. Next thing they should do is put AR's in place like they have been proposing in all these areas where DMP's are next to impossible to get, and some of the more intelligent folks can tell us again why they think we will continue to buy licenses! Maybe the DEC will issue a "Wild Life Watching License" Because it's certainly not hunting. Watching all the does and bucks we can't shoot.Dave

I'm guarenteed at least 3, maybe 4 with sign overs. And most likely 2 DMAP's. 4 does didn't get by me last year (and 4 more by my partner), but I have let all bucks pass for at least 4 years waiting for an actual mature one. Maybe paint with a little more narrow brush?
Larry
At lease I can apply in 9p I have a point from last year and so do both of my sons. If I do get a DMP shouldn’t be hard getting a doe seeing all kinds of then at camp

RobC
I don't understand why 2nd choice for 9g is low but non-resident 1st choice is high. Shouldn't non-residents just get what's left over?

bubba
Well as usual my area 6c requires preference points just to have a chance. It took 3 preference points last year to get one. That means I will be 2 to 3 years before I get another one. I feel real bad for you guys. Good thing we dont have antler restrictions, I would be saving my hundred bucks. wztirem
What makes this all the more frustrating is the failure of hunters to report their kills. If there was nearly 100% compliance with the law the allocations for permits would be easier to take.
landtracdeerhunter
It doesn't seem that the state is to worried about reporting kills, or they would have done something way before now. Take a look at Ohio, they issue you a temporary tag. The deer must be takened to a check in station, where a metal tag is issued and the kill is recorded. There report rate is far higher than NY's. Of coarse, things are done much more effectively in there state anyways. As far as issuing DMP's, The deer tend to build up in greater numbers, where their is ideal habitat. What is the state doing to improve habitat in those areas where deer numbers are lower than what they desire? Are deer numbers ever going to improve in some of those areas, reguardless of what the state does?

They may very well try to keep us from getting permits. They probably know that if they give them to us, that deer will actually end up dead. Unlike many of you here who will shoot and miss all the deer you see, and then tell us that you passed them up!

Give us some pointers on where we can hunt in relative solitude, and where there isn't a chance that our deer will drop next to someones backyard barbecue, and we will be there. With us there, area 1C will become a "preference points needed" area before you know it! LOL
