Paula, in my area there is always a guy with an ad on Craigslist offering to come pick up bee hives for free. Try your local area under Farm and Garden.

I know more then one friend that got  free craps,    free bees never heard of anyone giving them away .

Put add on fb market place,  many will come for free especially if easy access, I had the guy that now has hives on my place took one out of my wall, we literally ripped out the electrical panel and drywall. , he was surprised.i was willing to do that for a bee hive, but I didnt want them dead..

There are plenty of people who will take your bees for free, and be really nice about it. You just have to find them. You might check with the Cornell Ag Extension. http://cce.cornell.edu/

If you can find a phone number someone will help you. They're a huge leftist bureaucracy, but they will actually try to help if you can contact them.

I had 2 people come over, both said wait till spring. One guy was free but because of where it is he wants to charge me. 

I say I should just keep them and every winter go down in there and get honey
