Water Rat
Caught this guy the other day. I never heard a coyote bark and growl as much as this guy did. He didn't go far with a grapple.

I was just trying to show the holding power and the perfect high catch that the trap made. Unfortunately these things can happen when an animal fights the trap.

mowin
Never got into trapping, but really enjoy reading about it and the techniques used. I personally don't see anything wrong with the pic. It's part of the process.
DirtTime
Nothing wrong with the pics. It's just the way trapping goes. Looks like you also have the den located, nice. One less fawn/poult killer in NYS. Edited December 23, 2019 by DirtTime

Steve D
Nice catch I would like to get some sets out here but the ground is just saturated with water and the melting snow isn't helping much.

Sometimes mother nature is not kind and the results are not always pretty. Here is a fox that coyotes destroyed when it couldn't even defend itself. Coyotes are not politically correct.

Hay sets are good for cold temps too and buckwheat hulls to bed traps Edited December 24, 2019 by turkeyfeathers

Hay sets on frozen creeks make nice attraction , canines love to run them. Caught 5 red fox in same yet years back. Gather of the hay which now has more Fox scent on it , reset quick and good to go. No bedding needed as you said. Use scissors to cut up some smaller pieces to lightly cover trap. Too big and they’ll clog jaws.

I'm using wax dirt. I've never had any luck with peat moss in the winter. Once it gets wet and freezes , the set becomes inoperable. 1
Pygmy
Yeah..The peat moss cost me a bobcat this fall...The night before I was going to pull the traps, it rained and froze and then snowed a couple of inches...I had cat going across the trap going into the cubby, and out of the cubby....Prints were in the fresh snow, but the freezing rain had iced the trap over enough so it did not fire...
