Can you freeze the wild leeks for later use? I do not know about freezing, but I pickled some a couple of years ago and they were fantastic! https://honest-food.net/pickled-ramps-recipe/
coonhunter
Pickled leeks and jalapenos are two of my favorite canned foods. A good bread and butter pickling mix works perfect.
Otto
I completely forgot to cook the ramps for Easter dinner yesterday. Tonight I sautéed them in olive oil and salt and pepper. When they were almost done, I added 1/4 cup of water, covered the pan and steamed them until very soft. Delicious! They cooked down to almost nothing, so next time I will make a bigger batch.

Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk They look ready now. If they get too big the leaves get stringy and the bulbs lose their flavor. JMO. This is the earliest I have harvested any, usually get my first batch on opening day of turkey and pick for 2 weeks or so after that. Otto
Anyone know if these are wild onions? No onion smell. Leaves look flat, not tubular like on a scallion. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

It seems that everyone picks the bulbs. I just use the leaves and only pick one leaf of each plant so the plant lives. Am I missing something? Flesh, yes in Camillus. See your Messages. Yes, I agree, they are a bit early. This past week and next week put the skids on an “early spring”. Enigma
So my question for those who might know . . . Can you transplant them to a new spot? Anyone ever tried? Would think with the right soil conditions (leaf litter) the ends might take if planted correctly? My understanding is the seeds are unpredictable and leeks take a very long time to produce. Anyone?
