Yes, I have hunted frogs when I was a kid, and they are delicious. I also had frog legs down in an Alabama restaurant a few decades ago. I also used to "harvest" (....lol) snapping turtles. My Uncle used to make some great turtle soup. Tried to make turtle burgers too ...... Don't ever do that. It was just like little chopped up rubber bands.

I love frog's legs. I never hunted them alway took them by hook. Used to use a long fly rod with like 6#line with a fliy attached. Walk the bank and dangle it above them and they jump right up and grab it thinking it is a bug. No need to get wet getting them...lol.

Pinch the barb closed and they come off very easily

any frogs or bullfrog? is there a difference?

Paula... The only frogs big enough to monkey with are green frogs and bullfrogs. The larger green frogs have hind legs that have enough meat to be worthwhile, but the bullfrogs are really the best and have the most meat..Kinda like comparing red squirrels to grey squirrels..

Dust them in flour, salt and pepper and sautee in butter until golden brown.. That is indeed LIVING LARGE....YUM !..

Snapping turtles are excellent, also, although they are MUCH more trouble to prepare for the table..A few years ago a few friends and I got together and got a bunch of snappers and had a "Turtlefest" at my house...We had turtle cooked 8 different ways.

My favorite way is roast turtle...Clean and disjoint the turtle . You will end up with 4 legs and the neck ( which is all white meat and the biggest piece of meat on the turtle). Dip the pieces in egg and Italian bread crumbs and brown in butter in a skillet. Then place the browned pieces in a roaster in a medium oven and roast until fork tender and nicely browned..Good stuff.

I used to catch bullfrogs and leopard frogs all the time when I was a kid. I would catch 500 of them a summer! There is a very small pond, about 30 feet across, maybe 2 feet deep in the middle. Thing is ALWAYS filled with frogs in the summer. They get REAL BIG too! I'm talking 18-21 inches with the legs!

The pond gets so loud with them in the summer you can hear them nearly a quarter mile away. If you walk in there at night it is LOUD, like, you have to speak up so people can hear you. If you throw a rock in the middle of the pond, it is SILENT for about 5 seconds, then they get going again. It's funny to do...

I used to take some home as pets, they only last about 6 months in captivity tho...

Never ate them tho, just never thought about it... Now after reading this thread, I think I'll get back to my ways when I was a kid, catch some big bullfrogs and cook em up this summer!

We also used a rod with a red piece of cloth on a hook, 22's or a spear. Not too many things funner when you are 10 or so spending the day with a buddy sloppin up an old slow creek bed or small pond fillin up a string of bulls for Grandma to fry up!
