What kind of weed...

Anyone know what kind of weed this is it grows on my job in some areas similar to what I have upstate. I’m going to bring some home and see if the deer will eat it. I seen a few residents picking it but can’t understand them.

I'm not sure, but looks like pokeweed to me. Looks like the leaves have been pretty chewed up, so it's a little hard to tell. If the locals are picking it, it very likely is.

Maybe it grows in mud. That’s what I need upstate. I have to muddy areas that get good sun.

That’s how the leaves grow it has a purple steam with little black thrones.

Our horticulturalist said she can’t be sure, but looks like bitter lettuce.

Kinda reminds me of wild horse radish?

I remember picking something similar when I was a kid off the edge of the hose pasture.

That looks like some type of wild  lettuce  or something i think people eat that .

You should try uploading it to google image search and see what comes up .

That's what it looks like to me.  Deer seem to like it before it becomes mature.  Easy to identify it late in the summer with the brown seed clusters.

What ever it is they didn't touch it last night.I can say it is bitter and i never tasted any greens like it.
