Well went out looking for sheds today, and found a nice palmated 1 1/2 year old. Then i found i buck that i had hit during bow low thru the brisket, it was not there in muzzloader, but i feel it may have died from complications from the wound :( would of been even better this year i'm sure and had convinced myself that it would live as i tracked it for 2 days and never found it. Maybe i'm being to hard on myself as it could of been shot and lost by a gun hunter, poacher or car/truck , as where i found it was not far from a road and i know it was not there in muzzleloader season as it lay on a logging road/property line.

thats sucks greg unfortunately those are the circumstances tho... You never know how he died so no sense in beating yourself up to bad over it. Atleast you were able to make the find on him. Loosing a deer is not fun and one never knows if he lived or not after the shot or like you said, someone else may have hit him one way or another...

Actually, you never will know that the deer died of the wound from your shot. I'm sure that in the weeks that followed, he came in front of a lot of other hunters and maybe even a car or two. Last year, I finished off a buck that I know would not have made it through the winter, and I don't believe that his misery had anything to do with hunting. His hind quarters were chewed up and missing a lot of meat. There are a lot of nasty ways for a deer (or any critter) to meet his end and they are not always the result of things that we do. I wouldn't be too quick to accept blame for this guy's end. Your assumption may very well be correct, but you will never know for sure.

Those stubby rounded points on that shed lead me to believe that it's an older buck rather than a young one. JMO

I agree. Do they go down? If they point up it's a young deer, if they grow down its a mature deer. Look at some sheds you have and you will see what i'm talking about.

I know the shed is a year n a half, have pics of him, body size is that of yearling and pedical base is under 1/2 in. looks just like a big plamated ten that we took off property 2 years ago... most likely related to him..
