  2. Well, I will try to post this wherever I can. I joined this forum to share stories and celebrate harvests with fellow hunters. Sadly to my dismay I was severely misinterpreted by the ideology of this website. Everywhere a hunter has attempted to post his/her success, there has been the usual suspects who attempt to assassinate their character based upon their success. I am not a professional hunter and I do not hunt for bone only. I hunt deer to feed my family period! A doe or 14 point buck will both feed my family. Unfortunately, many of the post here lead to a cock fight of mine is bigger than yours, which is completely stupid. I shot a big buck this year and I will be going to many conventions and dinners because of the animal I shot. I know it will be a cock fest and I will probably not go because of that reason. I have come to learn that many of you hunters in New York State are some uppity self-bias bone chasers. GOD forbid someone harvest a deer larger that is larger than you may ever see. If they have, it does not mean the deer was illegally taken. The amount of time you spend on this web-site leads me to believe you spend more time on this site then in the woods. Do not blame others for your shortcoming. Get your ass out into the woods and HUNT! Quit expecting the deer to owe your punk-ass something. They don’t, and every other hunter does not either. If you do not like it then change your game!!!!

  3. DEC says that you always should ask before hunt, as far as I know it is not illegal. What do you think guys? The same goes for posted land with no address or contact info, even if I want to ask I don't know who to ask. And for the record, I did not trespass I just see a lot of land that is not posted and having second thoughts and need your opinion. Thanks

  7. I am fully aware that we are a dying breed. Please explain to me how AR's will have a positive impact on recruiting new hunters. Yet another restriction for them to deal with, not to mention teaching them to have the wrong priorities. Many new hunters (young and old) get discouraged with lack of success and give up easily, why put another barrier in the way of their success? When ANY hunter quits, it decreases the probability of those under their influence taking up our sport. So the few hunters who quit don't matter to you? What about their children? Their grandchildren? Their friends? It adds up. I think maybe you like having the woods all to yourself. I trust the DEC as far as I can throw them. Blah blah blah, It all adds up to $$$$ for them.

  8. I have yet to see any thread that stays on topic forever. These things do evolve and wander. That's kind of natural. Sometimes we have to bring it back on track (if there is more to discuss). If the original topic has been satisfied, then there probably is no problem with it moving in new directions as long as there is still interest.

  10. So you are not a true hunter if something pisses you off enough to make you stop handing over your hard earned money for something you don't agree with? hmmm I guess you fellas figured out every thing, I didn't know you conducted surveys and can read minds.

  11. Yawn.. another AR thread. Nothing new here guys, some of the 1.5s are going to make it only to get hammered at 2.5..whoppie. Hey ain't there already a FEW other threads on this topic?

  12. Dad 6424 That would be hard in the ADK where you are not allowed to shoot doe, except during bow season... Less than 1 deer per square mile, shooting a doe first would cut the population down even further. And yes I agree outlaws will still shoot what ever where ever, laws don't apply to them. Some area's in NYS do not need population control. I know area's in the ADK by town's loaded with deer yet other vast area's are not. Personaly I feel AR restrictions would help mature the herd but I am a mature deer hunter in general and could care less if I was not able to shoot a spike or four pointer. Most mature deer hunters do not need AR as they self impose thier own... I don't believe you can use a mid western state's deer management in NY too many variables. The norther zone and S. zone are like night and day... The reason, I believe, most Mature deer hunters would like AR restrictions is to have more opportunities at a better class of deer, if all those spikes and small bucks are not shot, they will be around untile they are an adult provided the winter or yotes don't get them... If you don't think AR would work ask Mr.Dave Edwards about the AR property he has hunted. O yea and check out his dad's (Sr.)deer this year, proof is in the pudding... Both deer taken on a long time self imposed Quality Deer Management property. But I understand not everyone want's a big deer, they just want A deer. For those I say AR restrictions would suck but I feel it would improve the herd wich is all I care about. I could care less if someone says they will stop hunting if AR restrictions are impossed, they probably were not passionate hunters anyway. If the dec said I could only use a Knife, I would be up next year in the middle of the ADK with a knife trying to figure out how get one... Some like to hunt, others love to hunt and then thier is me... Hunting and fishing is a passion for me, and to stop for any reason is unfathomable. GETSOME

  13. I "pop" a 209 primer in my in-line before loading. May not be necessary, but a carry-over habit from my T\C Hawken days. May not help. Hasn't caused any problems with fouling, so I'll keep following the habit. Worst case is you have to put another cap or primer in. My bigger concern is wet powder (pellets) on rainy/humid days. Biggest fear is getting a great opportunity & all you hear is pop instead of all the smoke & thunder.

  14. There are a few here that rear their heads only when the topic of AR's come up. The funny thing is they all claim that AR's are the greatest thing since sliced bread and that there are many more big bucks around now in their AR units, yet I have not seen any of them post pictures of themselves killing any of these big bucks. And it's not like they would be shy about posting any such pictures either. LOL

  18. during bow i can sit all day no problem. Some days i intend on sitting till just 10 or so but just can't bring my self to leaving my stand. And when i do,i slowly walk back home.Sometimes i will even stop on the way and sit behind some brush and stay there for an hour or so.During archery i am in heaven.I can try to blend in as much as possible and hide trying to sneak one on a buck.See plenty of deer and that is very injoyable. During gun is a whole diferant senario.I start to lose my interest.I havn't seen very many deer during gun season ever.I have tried and keep trying new tactics and they just don't seem to be moving when im in the woods.By the end of gun season i cant barely even get up to go into the woods. My esteem is just shot.I usally leave about 10 am and sit from 2;30 till dark.thats if i can push myself to get into the woods. If i am hunting state land during gun i can stay in the woods all day but i move around alott.I scout and hunt at the same time.Just the being in the woods is pleasursome enough.

  22. well yotes were native to ny.. they were called brushwolves by the early settlers and were eradicated. As for the taking of deer i saw a red fox take down a 2 day or less old fawn this past spring so i guess its time to kill them too.. Everyone should buy fur coats for their wives and driv ethe price of fur back up!!! help the economy and the predator population control all in one fell swoop!!!

  23. Our processor is a huge outfit with a whole lot of employees. I always get my meat back within a day (or less) of when I drop it off. Actually that hide is off and the carcass is hanging on a conveyor inside of a couple hours or less. This year I dropped my deer off on opening day late in the morning. He already had a pile of deer there. I got my call to come and pick up my meat around 4:00 in the afternoon. That kind of service is not all that unusual and has become the norm for the past decade that I have been using these guys. We have a neighbor own the road that seems to be a believer in aging meat. He generally has some doe hanging in his front lawn for about 3 to 4 weeks before it finally disappears. Most like it is taken down and taken to the dump or someplace ..... ha-ha. I see he has another one dangling there this year....lol.
