JFB. Thanks for sharing one more bit of wisdom before you left with your skirt wedged in your crack.3 points

More tax on anything is my biggest fear at this point. Government needs to shrink, bring in term limits, enable job creation and the return of manufacturing and leave me the F alone. Thats why I feel that either of the current choices are a real hard pill to swallow. Niether of them will do what really needs to be done.2 points

This 10 point came by at 20 yards and I was only able to get the camera out after he started walking away. Beautiful young buck. These 2 bucks were at 10 yards when working the scrape!1 point

Yes and that is all after getting a 2/3 vote to get to that point, ain't gonna happen any way you shake it. More tax on bullets is a far bigger realistic thing to fear.1 point

my neighbor has a similar fence and the deer impale themselves on it all the time. The funny thing is that she is very anti-hunting. Last spring a doe caught herself right through the gut. The deer was still alive so she called the police. The cop was more clueless than her so she called me to help put it down. I didn't have a gun with me so I had to tell the cop what to do (pretty pathetic). I just had to get a jab in and told her that for someone so against hunting, she has killed more deer with her fence than me as a hunter.1 point

I know, I know. I was actually slowly trying to back out when that guy brought up the whole UN crap again. It aggravated me enough that I had to look into the specifics of it because I knew the claims weren't true. I deal with politics and electoral procedure all day long. I really need to avoid this section and stick to the hunting forums. This place is supposed to relax me and lower my blood pressure when I visit, not raise it.1 point

It's an investment, but we purchased steel stakes and then attached aluminum signs to backer boards and then crewed them to the steak. They've been up 7 years and look great.1 point

They don't "have" to be taken. People take them because it's easier than actually learning how to hunt. There are lots of deer and antelope taken out west with archery gear every year.1 point

Those are turkey vultures, and very important to our ecosystem as a whole. Vultures can prevent the spread of disease. In one study in which vultures were fed disease-causing organisms, including anthrax and botulism (this should be of note to hunters, ESPECIALLY waterfowl hunters, where botulism is a real concern!), it was found that most bacteria were killed in the vultures' highly acidic stomachs. Without vultures to efficiently remove large amounts of decaying meat, both air and groundwater could show increased contamination. Some people don't like them because they're ugly, but they aren't much 'uglier' than their namesake, the wild turkey, which many of us love a great deal.1 point

Sounds like the same concept as wine- wines made from the same grape variety but from different regions are very different.1 point

300 yards or more is a LONG bloody shot, I don't care who you are, or what gun or ammo you are shooting. I just love all those youtube videos of these guys putting animals down at 700, 800, or more yards. I call it BS and irresponsible behavior. They show us the one kill they made, but of course won't show the dozens of misses or woundings before they finally connected. In my mind it's a crying shame that you have some magazines and TV shows promoting this long distance gunning of game animals.1 point

The UN Small Arms treaty has been a difficult issue to get an honest read on, because most of the articles written on it are from the fear mongers wanting you to believe they are coming for your guns. But a UN treaty doesn't trump the US Constitution. http://www.politifact.com/georgia/statements/2012/aug/10/paul-broun/broun-un-treaty-likely-lead-international-gun-regi/1 point

Hey Dave6x6 quote "maybe a traffic light at these crossings with a button that the deer could push before they cross would help. " No can do because it would only be used by "button bucks"....lol!1 point

Just because WE have been out there two weeks early does not mean Mama Nature is goin to get those deer romances started two weeks early.1 point

I think im gonna start hugging my deer once they have passed on to deer heaven, so they know i meant no disrespect when i took its life. I may even invest in a swing like contraption so it can"sit" comfortably while i gently "process" it. Maybe i should take the " remnants " and bury a nice grave for the left over remains.... just a thought1 point

Dont have to be worried about the cat. Cool to watch though. THey are pretty much loners but you might see two together not much more than that. I have never seen one in the wild so consider yourself lucky.1 point

That kitty won't bother you or the deer much.. He'll run like hell if he sees/smells you, and he's not much threat to an adult deer unless it is crippled or bogged down in heavy snow.. Feel lucky to have had a chance to observe one..Many folks haven't..1 point

How many deer butchers out there will do it for free if you donate the venison?? There may be some, but I bet they are in the minority. Most butchers have more than they could handle. I doubt you will get too many chopping deer up for NO money. I cut my own up. Always have and always will. I don't care how reputable the butcher is. Absolutely NO way for you to know that the meat you get back is actually yours.1 point

Wow! Well I had an awesome weekend. It was slow at times, then busy at others. Unfortunately I did not score a deer. HOWEVER, I did see a bear for the first time. That was just amazing, he stood up and I got the shakes a bit... About 5 feet tall or so, it was just amazing. I saw a ton of does, fawns, etc. Nothing was really in range, until Sat evening. I was sitting in my wood stand, which is about 300 yards from the fields. This deer came in straight ahead at me, looked like a good sizes doe. I got ready and then once I realized it was a spike I put my bow down and watch him browse for about 45 min. All of a sudden he looks behind me and freaks out... So I look to my right and there is a HUGE doe, mature, big body. I slowly stand up, grab the bow. Then I hear these noises further behind me. Sounded like a light grunt, then a nose clear. I look back and there is a large 6 staring in my direction (Really I think at the spike), then to the left of the 6 was a absolute monster 8 / 8 +. Wayyyy outside the ears... No joke it looked like a freaking horse. It was hands down the biggest deer and rack I have ever seen in the woods. My leg immediately started shaking. I was freaking out a bit. He stayed there for about 20 min, and this was about 6pm. He was not moving towards me. At this point I tried a light grunt two times... He picked his head up looked, and went back to browsing... He stayed there till after 6:30 and then moved on his way by 6:45. The entire time I was surrounded by deer, at least 8 of them... 3 bucks, does and fawns. I'm surprised I did not get busted. It was awesome. Wish he came closer, but man this deer was a beast! So much fun, hopefully run into him next time I get out. Its just exciting to see a true mature buck.1 point

So this afternoon I got out of work at 4 and headed to my dads place for a sit. In the last hour, I saw 11 different doe that were all spooked and either running or trotting by with no shots possible. Then I heard something coming through the leaves to my left, so I grabbed my bow and got ready. I saw her all by herself and figured it would just be a little button or something like that. She poked her head into an opening and I could see her long nose, and I knew I wanted to take her. I drew back as she was behind a tree, and she walked out and gave me a perfect shot. She came in broadside at 20 yards, and I zipped it her right through both shoulders. The arrow then stuck @ 8 inches into the dirt. Broadhead just needs a once over and Ill use it again. I love these Montecs! This is the same arrow I took my buck with last year! Hopefully I can get nother one with it this year! Shes already quartered up and in the fridge waiting for me to cut her up this week. This is the first time I have put one down on any opening day!1 point
