This obviously isn't a NY kill, but it was my first harvest of the season. 4x4 bull elk, taken last Thursday in the Bob Marshall Wilderness in Montana. 25 yard quarter to shot, got both lungs, liver and some gut and sliced up the offside hindquarter. He went about 150 yards and watched him drop.9 points

So the guy that hijacks and bushwhacks more threads on the site than anyone else is going to talk about keeping things orderly? The one that just called someone out for something that went on a year ago in the sam thread he talks about orderly? Please.6 points

This could make us think!!! A professor at University of Montana was giving a lecture on 'Involuntary Muscular Contractions' to his first year medical students. Realizing that this was not the most riveting subject, the professor decided to lighten the mood slightly. He pointed to a young woman in the front row and said, 'Do you know what your ass hole is doing while you're having an orgasm?' She replied, 'Probably deer hunting with his buddies.' The professor laughed so hard he could not continue with the class.4 points

Just smoked a doe .... Looked like a good heart shot ... Heard her crash bout 50 yds away... Gonna give her a bit n see if I can't get a buck to come by ....4 points

So i ended up seeing 6 does and 2 fawns, then had a mature buck we call half rack come out at 20 yards. I did not have a chance to stand up, so i tried drawing on him while sitting and my sleeve swooshed against my pants, causing the buck to spook. Its too bad too, we have been after him for a couple of years. He has pedicle damage on his right side, so he only grows anything on the left. He has 5 points this year, and his body is ungodly big. His neck already blends down and leaves no visible brisket. After he left, I had the 2 1/2 year old 9 point come out and stand in my shooting lane for a couple of minutes. I let him go. Ended up being a good sit.3 points

Just let an 8 and a 6 walk by. It wasn't easy, but it felt real good seeing them... The adrenaline was awesome! Hope to see them two paired up next year.2 points

You can't be afraid to eat tag soup. That fear of not getting "your buck" is why most people complain about 1.5s getting shot and not seeing mature bucks.2 points

Honestly, these days I prepare mighty little. I just pick up my boots and weapon when it's time to go and that's pretty much it. When I do go out, it will be rain or shine and I won't be blaming anyone or anything if I don't put something down. I've hunted long enough to know that anything could happen at any time while one is out hunting and it can happen when you are least expecting it. I do know for certain, however, that you won't kill JACK if you aren't out there.2 points

Congrats! Yeah, throw up a pic for those of us sitting at our desks, gazing out the office window!2 points

Man, you guys just kill me! You started counting the minutes back in April for hunting season to come around and now you are finding all types of excuses. Hilarious!2 points

I don't get this. Why would someone be sweating while sitting still in a shady tree that still has leaves on it? Why not wear lighter clothes? I could see 80 degrees being uncomfortable if you have to hike 9 miles, but sitting still should not make someone sweat there a** off. 80 degrees beats 0 degrees any day of the week for me. You surely won't kill a deer sitting on the couch at home.2 points

Guys, stop making excuses. They are moving just fine. Last evening, in 75 plus degrees, I saw 10 deer, including a mature buck. Deer move in this weather, they have to eat, drink, etc. If you have the right wind conditions for your sets, get your butts in there.2 points

But do you have a list of target does by name? We are talking trophies here.2 points

My book smart friends said I was wasting my time in the 76 degre day. I saw a buck chase 4 doe around me, a wild black cat went under me and Peter rabbit went hopping by. Not to mention I was in the wood while he was working....so how does he like me now I wonder?2 points

Just saw a commercial for this electric powered trike . Only 5 grand and you can't even sit down. It can get you way back in the woods, but what happens when you get a deer ? Throw it over your shoulders? Ride it back to get your $10k quad? Great if you have logging roads, little mud or cash falling out of your pockets.I do the old fashion thing ,walk in ,walk out . If I get a deer , I drag it..........just my 2 cents. I feel better now..........1 point

If your broadheads are grouping to your satisfaction, adjust your sights to the broadhead group. Who gives a crap where the field points are hitting? Are you planning to shoot field points at deer? I have never understood this anal need to get ones field points to hit the same spot as the broadheads. Shoot broadhead tipped arrows and tune the bow to those arrows......DONE! If the desire to shoot field points for target practice is that great then there are some options. 1. Setup another bow for just target practice. (we all need to justify more bows anyways!! 2. Note where the field tips group and simply adjust your aim. 3. Adjust your sight back to the field tip group. 4. Use a second sight adjusted for the field tips and swap the sights out. I personally just do the second choice. I like to ensure my hunting bow is setup and tweaked for shooting broadhead tipped arrows. I do not care at all where it shoots the same arrow when that arrow has a field tip on it.1 point

is there actually land left there to hunt or were you on the roof of someones Mercedes G-Class in their driveway LOL this used to be some of my stomping grounds before moving to NH1 point

I would not let it hang over night in these temps unless it is in a cooler. I would at a minimum get it skinned and quartered and get them in coolers with ice is you can't fully process it. That is what stinks about an evening watch in this weather. It makes for a long night.1 point

Depends on how far away they were when walking behind it...remember...a older deer will pick you off from a distance...and you never know it...so if that view through the top is a trail that leads down to you...just trim a hole...if your stand is well concealed (blind) from your movements ...bend and trim/hinge...only you can really judge1 point

Sounds like a legit story. If it's true that would really suck, and I would be beyond pissed after something like that. Only thing that I can take to the woods from the story is enforcing the principle that we all were taught and that is to be sure of what's in your sights and what is beyond.1 point

Hunting Like every other sport has become Commercial sell products that Hunter just don't need. I Bowed hunt & gun hunt most of my big buck kills have been at 10-20yrds 1st, Air your hunting close out, get a couple big Comforter bags, take foil and I place in it cutup apple, young sappy white pine, dirt (if you could get Scrape dirt),leaves all from around my stand. Take it wrap it poke holes in it bingo, put that in the bag close it up. 2nd biggest mistake Wind direction and stand placement. 3rd Lacrosse Boots, rub deep in before you start your walkin 4th Shower to keep clean.1 point

I have a savage model 110 in both .270 and 30-06. Both are great guns, fair priced and deadly accurate. The .270 has less kick but not really by much. A joy to shoot em both. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 21 point
