  2. Went out this morning solo with my dog Waylon. Shot a pair of big Canada geese that came in perfectly to my small spread of decoys. My dog Waylon loves to pose with the birds and for reference Waylon weighs 70 lbs. which will give you an idea of the size of the birds. I quit after that as there was no way I was going to carry a third bird out lol.

  3. Haven't hunted since I shot my buck but couldn't resist hunting in the snow this morning. 18 yds shot 10 minutes after light. She had a 6 pt and a 10pt dogging her, I waited 45 minutes to go get her and the smaller buck was still standing over her, he wouldn't leave. Sent from my motorola edge (2022) using Tapatalk

  4. I like to only endorse with stuff I have experience with, a 1x4 or 5 Leupold will suffice for most hunting, if you want a little more power the 2X7 Leupold is a winner. Life time guarantee so do not be afraid to buy a nice used model and save a few bucks. EBAY can be your friend. Al

  8. Last year was a first for crossbow for me. I liked it ,but had far to many projects that needed tending to, so hunting had to take the back seat. I now fresh off the gilly tending and ready to give it full pursuit. Good luck to all hunting these addicting whitetails. May you bows be cocked and your arrows fly true.

  9. Just got my Maine moose euro mount back. Had to negotiate with the boss of the house, we settled on a euro over a shoulder mount. The threat of a divorce has been averted.

  10. Nice, Those are a couple of big ones, I believe there is a sub species of Canadian Geese that are extra large size, that may be what you have there. Congrats. Al

  11. No it wasn't, this was on state land so I know of a few real nice bucks around but never really planned on hunting those bucks. This is my doe spot typically, my leases are for bucks and man we're there some dandies all over my cams today. I'm now vowing to not shoot a buck until Halloween next year. 12. A couple of things, first off is the theme of the rifle which is light weight and fast handling. I want to match the scope to the rifle's theme and keep the total package as light as possible within reason. For the way I will be using this rifle the 1X5 Leupold fits the bill perfectly as the outfit weighs 5.83 lbs on my scale. Second, I am for the most part a woods hunter, I do not believe I have killed a Deer much over 100 yds in the last 40 years or so and the longest shot I ever made on a deer was about 250 yds. That 1X5 Leupold will handle any of those type shots easily including the 250 yarder. Also the field of view is huge and what I want in a woods rifle to get on target in close quarters fast. I will most likely have the scope set on 2X power when hunting. Many of my Deer rifles have 2.5 and 1X4 scopes, my slug gun has a 3X Leupold mounted on it and has accounted for probably half the Deer I have ever taken. I just do not see the need for a big mambo high powered scope for Deer where I hunt. One last thing, there is a misconception that a high powered scope is required for longer range shooting, for best results for target and dedicated varmint hunting that is true. For Deer here in NY for the most part a hunter that knows his gun will get along perfectly fine with a scope with a lower range in power and make the longer shot if need be. That is my take, if someone wants to use a high powered scope as long as it suits them I have no problem with it, just not my cup of tea. Al

  13. One possibility is the Burris Droptine 3-9 x 40. It's about 12" long, weighs 13 ozs and costs under $200. There are many others, but most (lower price point models) are made in Pacific Rim countries like the Philippines. I'd suggest contacting Doug at Cameraland NY for his suggestions.

  15. Anyone who tries to defend the cluster F the Biden administration is causing in the states and around the world has no seat at my table. No one can be that stupid to create what's happening at the border's and around the globe, so it has to be intentionally done and that's unforgiveable. The really sad part is that most of the Democrat voters are ok with it and think America is on the right track. It's like living in an episode of the Twilight zone. SJC

  16. Sat last night and all day today. Still haven’t seen a deer. One owl and 6 squirrels. I haven’t even seen a track on my 94 acres and cams are dry. Not the East Otto I am accustomed to.

  20. I'm not sure just how rare a three legged deer really is. I shot a 3-legged doe a bunch of years ago, and she was fatter than an old hog. I had seen her all through the summer, and was feeling sorry for her so I decided to purposely target her. As it turned out, there was no need to waste any sympathy on that one. She spent all of her time down in the thicket in front of the house and had a regular routine of coming out every evening to feed in a small field next to the thicket. While butchering her I found the heaviest layer of fat that I have ever seen on a deer. I figured the reason for that was that she probably never went up on the hill and kept her movements down to an easy routine down in the valley bottom. Nobody ever pushed her down in that thicket. She was likely living a life of leisure. The cut on the leg was about 4" down from the elbow on her left front leg, and a patch of black skin that looked like the bottom of dog's paw. When you think about it, it is possible to blow legs clean off or held on with a little skin that eventually parts. Also it is not completely rare that fawns laying in hay lots get caught up in mowers. I imagine that as long as they have 3 good legs, they likely have a reasonable survival rate. Tough critters aren't they?

  21. The libtards, the non citizens, the democrats and closet democrats, the so called independents and libertarians (if you vote democrat you are a democrat) all migrated to the other board or just left. Wonder if they are shooting their big trolling mouths off over there or are they laying low. Many were only here to troll the politics forum on this board and did little to no posting about anything else. Pretty darn hard to argue for the shit show government mess and regulations they voted for as the country continues to go down the toilet. The best part of this politics forum was to expose those who are against us, sorry but they are not our friends, the democrat party is stronghold to every and all organized groups against every activity on this board and a whole lot more!
