  3. https://youtu.be/KYTbaLTBu8U?si=ioHFVifWpJ2kRicq We were very thankful this Thanksgiving for a good buck and good footage- I was lucky and just turned on my camera in time to get the shot! Good luck to all of you the rest of the season! Thanks for watching!

  4. Well I cut to the chase tonight and took one of the Does I have been seeing all Fall with the Howa Superlight 6.5 Creedmoor. Nothing great but I got something to put into the freezer. About 125 yds, threaded the needle though some small openings and that was that. Now I can look forward to some Squirrel hunting. Al

  6. Bummer! Finally got snow yesterday evening and I had to be back to work this morning. Based on past history, with the sunshine today it would have been a great morning to be out there. I sat for last 2 or 3 hours in the snow storm last night and it was fun, but not productive. On the way out I crossed several fresh tracks around the stand I was not in of course. I love the snow because it really reveals a lot of information. It will be Saturday morning before I get back out and the snow is supposed to be gone by then. Good luck to those lucky enough to be out there today.

  7. The hunting community are the only ones that can bring the younger generation into the sport. We take our grandchildren out in bow season, so they can have more human- deer interaction in nicer weather. A little safer season. Starting them slow, and working up into the firearm season, as they mature. Thanks to those that have taught and taken youth afield, so the hunting tradition can continue.

  8. I have 2 1/2 straight power and 1X4 variables on my exposed hammer lever rifles, have a 1X5 on my Savage 99 for just a bit more power because it is chambered in 250 Savage, a cartridge that has some longer range potential. The lower powered scopes I use provide wide fields of view and long eye relief which is a main concern for me as I use them in the woods shooting relatively short ranges so high power is not important. Pickings are kind of slim for straight low powered scopes, Leupold discontinued both it's 3X and 2.5X ultra light, like new can be found on ebay at times, they still make the 1X4 which is a good choice. Both Vortex and Bushnell make a 1X4 that look pretty good. I had problems seeing open sights when the lighting was dim early mornings and just before dark, scoping my lever actions remedied that problem. Al

  9. Not a good fit for a scope because of the top eject. Tough to get the eye relief right. If you like the levers, get yourself one of those new Ruger/Marlin 336’s, that just came out this year.

  10. Sure do. Find those major runs to the corn and set up on them.

  11. Sounds like my place, I have 20 acres in corn. They cut it this year the Monday after the opener. I don't put any pressure on the farmer to cut it. Cut corn field is great to hunt late season. They always leave some standing for the deer, nice of them!

  12. My next door neighbor left and did the Maryland opener and finished up at their PA camp opener. They actually have to take a boat to the camp and hike in. Been in the family many years. One of these years I'll go!

  14. I think the hunters who aren't willing to adapt to changes are the ones struggling. The stump you sat on for 20 years straight and saw a deer opening day may be a thing of the past. Adapt, move, hunt new land, hunt new ways. I'm not sure why people think there has to be a bunch of hunters in the woods kicking deer all over the place in order to see one? Deer are still out there being deer, they will move more with less pressure therefore negating the fact there needs to be a pile of people walking around. I prefer quieter woods personally. It may sound selfish or blatant but I don't care if the guys that hunt one weekend a year stop hunting or not. They aren't true hunters anyways. The issue I see negatively impacting the sport is land access. There are a fair amount of state lands available but not really for the amount of guys that utilize them. The issue to me is the big money land leasing that is everywhere. It seems impossible to get permission most places that used to be easy to hunt on. You have 30 trucks hunting a piece of state land with 15 deer on it, while the big money lease next door with 3 guys on it has 40 deer eating in a field opening night. I know some of this is coming off as just complaining. I think the honest truth is the hunting shows have ruined hunting in more ways than one. But.... I'll adapt and continue to kill deer wherever I have to, I'm a good hunter, put me near deer and I'll figure out how to kill one. Sent from my motorola edge (2022) using Tapatalk

  15. Do it yourself and the only thing it will cost you is some time. I still find it hard to understand that hunters who claim to have years of experience take their deer to a butcher to be processed.
