  1. Well I cut to the chase tonight and took one of the Does I have been seeing all Fall with the Howa Superlight 6.5 Creedmoor. Nothing great but I got something to put into the freezer. About 125 yds, threaded the needle though some small openings and that was that. Now I can look forward to some Squirrel hunting. Al

  2. Antlerless tags cannot be used for a buck at anytime. Here is the link to the regulations. Scroll down to tag type and it will tell you the type of tag and what it is valid for. https://www.dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/hunting/deer-bear/regulations

  3. So I get out of work by 1:30 get home by 2. In the woods by 2:30 most of the time. Today it was 3:30 in the woods down to a spot wher I shot at the big buck on opening day. I'm not giving up on not seeing him again. Got a strange feeling. So it's 4:15 gotta pee so I go and turn around and a small spike is 30 feet from me. You can't hear them in the snow. He snorts and runs to the planted pines. FML I say. Should I stay or hunt my way out? I stayed and started to do some doe calls and buck grunts. 5 minutes later here come 4 doe from trhe pines where the spike went. They go right past me. Looked like 1 mature doe with 3 yearlings. I was happy I stayed. 10 minutes later here come 3 more doe from another direction. They head to the pines and out of the corner of my eye I see a big dark brown deer coming up my left shoulder. He was big so I was excited to think it might be that buck or another mature buck. As he cleared some trees I saw he was an 8 pt with a small rack. Body size was big and he was all rutted up but not the deer I was looking for. I have no idea if my grunting stirred up the deer or not? It didn't bother them!

  4. We didn't have the distractions to keep us from enjoying mother nature when we were young. Heck, we didn't know what was happening in the next county during the day and would have to hear it on the evening news or by ear to get info. Now a days life cannot go on for some without that little china made cell phone in their hand telling them what to do. Sad, but at least we're not giving up with the hope that the younger generations might come around one day. SJC

  5. It was nice and quiet on this site when you were away. I see anything I post still triggers you. Sad.

  8. I know it has been posted on here before . There was a thread about being able to use an anterless tag for a buck in a late season hunt . I looked through the regulations Booklet and didn't see it if it's there . Does anyone recall this and know where in the Regs Booklet that it is printed ? Thanks in advance .

  9. Here's the video of the 11/20 hunt. https://youtu.be/agyUuyw1Vvc This is what happens when you get cocky and try to take a headshot. Luckily I was able to get over the hill and drop it with the next shot in the body. SJC

  12. The hunting community are the only ones that can bring the younger generation into the sport. We take our grandchildren out in bow season, so they can have more human- deer interaction in nicer weather. A little safer season. Starting them slow, and working up into the firearm season, as they mature. Thanks to those that have taught and taken youth afield, so the hunting tradition can continue.

  13. My next door neighbor left and did the Maryland opener and finished up at their PA camp opener. They actually have to take a boat to the camp and hike in. Been in the family many years. One of these years I'll go!

  14. I think the hunters who aren't willing to adapt to changes are the ones struggling. The stump you sat on for 20 years straight and saw a deer opening day may be a thing of the past. Adapt, move, hunt new land, hunt new ways. I'm not sure why people think there has to be a bunch of hunters in the woods kicking deer all over the place in order to see one? Deer are still out there being deer, they will move more with less pressure therefore negating the fact there needs to be a pile of people walking around. I prefer quieter woods personally. It may sound selfish or blatant but I don't care if the guys that hunt one weekend a year stop hunting or not. They aren't true hunters anyways. The issue I see negatively impacting the sport is land access. There are a fair amount of state lands available but not really for the amount of guys that utilize them. The issue to me is the big money land leasing that is everywhere. It seems impossible to get permission most places that used to be easy to hunt on. You have 30 trucks hunting a piece of state land with 15 deer on it, while the big money lease next door with 3 guys on it has 40 deer eating in a field opening night. I know some of this is coming off as just complaining. I think the honest truth is the hunting shows have ruined hunting in more ways than one. But.... I'll adapt and continue to kill deer wherever I have to, I'm a good hunter, put me near deer and I'll figure out how to kill one. Sent from my motorola edge (2022) using Tapatalk
