  1. I thought I would share a couple pics from my stand I was in the other day. This was my view the other day from my ladder stand. If you look in the distance in the first pic you can see the island with my trash heap blind. If you enlarge the pic you can actually see the blind. The deer were in between these two stands. The second picture is another view from the stand overlooking my hill and across to the rolling farm fields across the road. I’ll hit the same spot Saturday morning.

  2. Thanks guys! I'm blessed with such great hunting property and good neighbors. I will do a Euro mount on this one. Last count there have been 15 buck and 10 doe killed this season between the neighbors. My camp has 4 buck 2 doe in that count. Here are the big three we got. 2 and 3 out of the same stand along with 2 doe. First picture was from a stand 100 yards away.

  4. What an afternoon. I get to my stand at 3:30 wind , temps were perfect. I hear a shot not too far away. Sounded like it was on my property. My neighbor gets back to me that there was a button buck in my corn field with the ass eaten out of it. Just standing there shaking. Seems like the yotes got this deer but didn't finish the process. Guys it was gross what I saw. He put the deer down. A good thing. So about 4:15 to my right I see two large deer. I have no idea if they were two bucks or a buck locked onto a doe. All I know is the buck started heading my way. It was a real nice 10 pt. Shooter goes off in my mind. I think that second deer was another buck but I never saw horns. So here he comes at 30 yards slight quarter to. I put a slug through the front shoulder and it exits through ribs. He goes down in front plowing up the leaves. I knew I had a good hit but he got out of sight. I get down and head for where I last saw him. Took a few minutes but I found him. Beautiful 10 pt. One tine was sligfhtkly broken and he had a scar on the upper part of nose. I thought that this could of been the buck that My neighbor and I hit opening day. Upon looking at the deer the back hoof was shot off. It was dangling and he was walking on bone. My neighbor and I agreed the buck on opening day was much bigger. I was thrilled to get this deer this late in season. 5 seconds before I shot this deer my brother texted. Telling me to shoot a big one so you can spend more time with your girlfriend! It worked!!!! Enjoy the picts.

  5. First, how long ago did you buy your rifle? A NEW Winchester 94 is over a thousand bucks last I knew, and yours in the used market is (depending on how sold and to who) likely to catch you back about six hundred....none of mine went for less, and none were in great shape or collectable. There used to be a guide to spend as much on the scope as you spent on your rifle. Three hundred bucks for a Leupold 1.5 x 5 is a bargain, and once you own one...you will never own another. Sorry, but a scope that sells for 129.oo is a throw away in my book. Many scopes are fine out of the box, but will they hold up twenty years down the road? On a hunt where it is getting knocked around, soaked, frozen, thawed and peed on? I have owned six Leupolds now...none have ever needed to be resighted (except for a change in ammo) or sent for any service, and they have been on .308s, heavy loaded 45-70s, 300 Win mags, 8mm Mausers, .270s, .22 250....well, I guess that covers it. The goal is to not EVER to need the warranty. But if you do, Leupold will return it to you postage paid...within the week.

  6. While the Doe I took this year was nothing to brag about she provided useful input on some new equipment. Got to use my new Howa Superlite Rifle Made a kill with factory ammo "Hornady Precision Hunter 143gr EDL" for the first time in many years and the first for me with the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge. The new Deer hoist worked like a charm Used an outdoor Edge replaceable blade knife for the first time on the skinning and it worked great Last but not least is the new LEM Mighty Bite meat grinder, picked it up last year on sale and it works very well replacing the Kitchen Aid that was good but a little slow. 9. Like millions of other Americans, my 85 year old father bought an AR15 and 5,000 rounds of Ammo last year. Sit's right next to his M1A. Come and take them.

  10. Skinner sights rear aperture and a fiber optic replacement front sight IF you need it. If you have never shot an aperture sight, your eye automatically centers on the opening and you use only the front sight to align the shot. Advantage for older eyes is you dont have to align a rear and front sight and pick up target, just front blade and target. I have 2 identical CZ 452 22lr’s…..one with a VX3 1.5-5.5 and one with an aperture. I can match shot for shot for accuracy. Keep the clean lines with no scope. http://skinnersights.com/winchester_26.html

  14. Nice Buck FL ! Congrats ! Looks like you did that one a favor also . Although he probably would of survived with the hoof gone , I think he still would of been run down by the Yotes because it was the back leg.

  17. They Winchester 94 AE lever gun was designed for scope use. As long as you use one that isn't too big and powerful for the round being fired, it will enhance your ability to shoot deer with the rifle. I like small scopes on my lever guns, the biggest being a 1.5-5x20mm. It's more than enough to use on targets out to 300 yards, which is really the practical limit of range for the .30-30 round. More importantly, it has a low enough setting to allow for quick use on close range shots. The most I would consider for that rifle would be a 2-7x33 compact scope. Anything bigger is unnecessary and will throw off the balance of the rifle and negate the ability to use it quickly at close range.
