  1. Buck followed that does trail from this am at 0815, decided to take him. Got me excited and that’s all I needed. 15 yard shot went 30 and fell over. Onto PA.

  2. Forgot about the clocks so I am up an hour too early. Very excited about my first sit of the year this morning. Going to the swamp stand. Took a nice 8 from that stand last year around this time of year. Hope to start seeing some bucks down soon. Good luck to everyone going out. Last year’s buck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. I’ve seen almost as many coyotes as deer from the stand I’ve been in, so trying something different. I moved way to the top ridge of my property where I seldom hunt. There are 4 active scrapes 15 yards directly in front of me, and 2 on the trail behind me. It’s pretty up here, slightest of breezes, and comfy in 7M. Happy Sunday!

  4. We left for the Army game at 4:30 am yesterday. Within a mile we encountered 3 different bucks chasing does. One doe ran between two pIne trees and laId down. Army win 7-0 record! Now back to hunting what a beautiful morning. Good luck all.

  6. Was in the double stand by 6:15 . Sat back and relaxed as legal time was &:10 am . I had aa heck of a time cocking the crossbow before getting into the stand . A tad after 8 , 3 doe came up through the woods about 80 yards away . Lost sight of them in the thickets . About the same time a doe on the other side of the ditch and blew . She was up wind of me but might have scented me . That was it . My son didn't see any deer . The corn was down and the field was cleared . I might try Mendon Tuesday afternoon . In the meantime I am considering buying a rope crank for my crossbow . I had no trouble cocking the Xbow when I was checking it out in the back yard but had a heck of a time in the woods .

  7. My favorite time of year, all the hunting seasons are open, so most everything is fair game. I am going to start dabbling with varmint calls and see if I can get anything to turn up. I still have a DMP so I may go for another Deer if the right one comes along. I am still looking to kill my first black squirrel, saw one the other day but did not have a shot. The one thing I have completely lost interest in is the Turkeys, I have plenty on them around and have had many opportunities, but they just do not appeal to my anymore. I am looking forward to some bird hunting (Grouse)but I will wait for these overly long Deer seasons to end. The hardest part is being equipped with a firearm that can handle everything and anything that comes into play. Probably one of those combination guns in the right chamberings would fit the bill. The Marlin 62 256 Winchester may work for most game if I can take Squirrels without ruining them, the big game bullets I have loaded for it may just punch hole in small game like a Squirrel, I know I can kill a Deer with it if I get the right shot. 8. Out here in 6k trying out a patch of woods I've only hunted a few times. Nothing but a group of turkeys so far. Very little breeze and quiet. There is 5 in the group today so hopefully someone has some luck. Good luck to all those out. Sent from my moto g power (2022) using Tapatalk

  9. You need some kind of over-and-under. Is that legal to deer hunt with a .22 barrel and a deer caliber as an over and under rifle? You might consider a double barrel 20 gauge with slug on one side and shot on the other side. Is that legal? Frankly, I am getting at the point where I could forget about the deer and just load up for squirrels.

  10. Ya man. Absolutely no reason for a guy with an outdoor interest not to have more than enough critters to chase. Tis the season.

  11. Frost on the ground, and bucks are moving. Grandchildren built a new blind yesterday. Sat there this am. Long story short, ended up passing on a 3 year old at 40 yards broadside. Thought long and hard on that one

  12. Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour. Means it gets light an hour earlier in the morning and dark an hour earlier in the evening. Hello 5 am. Again.

  13. Good sit tonight with my dad, seen 4 buck and 4 doe, of course the only one he was about to get a shot at was grunting and chasing a doe. None of the others cared about the doe.

  14. All the action here in wmu 9F is still within 1/2 hour of sunrise and sunset. A 2.5 yr buck walked by about 75 yards out at sunrise. Neck was swollen and appeared to be searching. This 1.5 yr 3-point fed on wheat for 5 minutes at under 20 yard range. My first legit “pass” of the SZ archery season on my first day of hunting it (I wait till crossbow opens). Just about ready to pull the plug on the morning hunt at our place. My next one will be Sunday morning over at my parents (nephew’s wedding is in between). I think the peak rut is going to kick off in another day or two. I may do (2) all day sits next weekend (one here and one at my parents).

  15. Just let another spike live to see another day. Was an easy shot but too little for what I’m shopping for at the moment.

  16. Happy National Bison day, designated our National mammal. Theodore Roosevelt had the lion heads removed from the White House fireplace mantle as they were representative of England and had them replaced with the Bison.2 bison mounts are on display at Sagamore Hill in oyster bay that adorned the walls of TR’s White House.
