Shot what I thought to be a nice doe at last light and come to find out it was a buck that shed both antlers. The pedicels were both bloody as they were not dropped very long ago. Kinda sucks to take out a young buck for sure.3 points

My friend hunts with the Vortex with the built in range finder. It also has some ability to program ballistics into it and it will give you bullet drop info at the distance you just targeted. Pricy as all heck but he loves it. He does nuisance hunts for a farm and shoots long range often.2 points

This year has being fill with ups and downs in the deer woods. I fill one tag during rifle season and tonight I was able to harvest young buck. Meat in the freezer is why I hunt. Congratulations to all who punched a tag during the 2024 deer season.2 points

Yeah, now that all is well in the world with the Donald back at the helm, politics has taken a back seat in the world of conversation. Too bad, it has been an exciting time in politics with old sleepy Joe stumbling around and crazy, giggling Kamala campaigning like a blithering idiot. Oh well, now we can see how a real President functions. I like the start to Trump's term even though he is not even sworn in yet.1 point

I have pulled them for now but while I have them out it is primarily to get an idea of what is roaming around. Without them I wouldn't know there were so many coyotes and where they seem to travel.1 point

I have 4 cuddeback cameras in the woods in Geneseo . Once it gets wet back there < we don't hunt it . We would have to float the deer out . I still enjoy getting wildlife pictures on those cameras .1 point

Sorry guys should of phrased it better. This the Doe I found after it was gut shot 2 days later. I found it on my neighbors property in his sanctuary area. The yotes ate the ass end and he wanted it out of there. I dragged it to my corn field within distance of a shooting box hoping to shoot a yote. I would never shoot and leave a deer to rot. Those of you that didn't read live from the woods wouldn't of known about this deer. My bad.1 point

Had a good friend go out this morning and shot a young buck chasing doe. Might have to sneak out after work Thurs.1 point

This afternoon sit was under an umbrella. Had a few doe and believed to be a buck that had already shed it's antlers come into the hay field to feed on grass about 4:30. Had a slight limp but, appeared to be getting around just fine. He moved the doe around quite a bit before exiting.1 point

I have used trail cams for wildlife photography. At one time I used to use them for assessing the deer population and quality on my property. But I don't really do any of that anymore. It was fun back then, but now I do my deer herd assessments the old way (Actual boots on the ground scouting). That is more fun and it gives me a reason to get out in the woods to snoop around. Studying trails and tracks, rubs, scrapes and all the other things involved with scouting are all part of the hunt. I don't want any shortcuts anymore. I'm actually adding more challenge back into the hunt by selectively limiting the technology involved. I don't get involved in the agriculture of food plots. I have stopped looking for more hi-tech archery equipment. I haven't bought any new archery equipment since 1999, and I'm still killing deer. The cameras are just one more piece of technology that I have thrown aside.1 point

The story behind that Deer was it could not be found after it was shot until a couple of days later, by then the Coyotes had got to it. Al1 point

There may also be a correlation regarding all the land that is being locked up with leases, and the fact that there are fewer hunters per acre because of that. Another thing that I have noticed is the number of part-time hunters. There are many who only hunt opening day. There are also a lot of 1/2-day hunters......Those who go out for lunch and don't come back. This sort of thing is what makes the numbers seem not so bad as far as the number of licenses sold. But there is a participation factor among those that buy the licenses. So many reasons for the "silence phenomenon" during the season.1 point

Regular season ended with my brother taking a spike. We goy up at 4:45 I looked outside and heard the wind and bed was calling me back. He texted a few times seeing a couple of Does and the 4 together but still couldn't get me out there. Then he texted just shot a buck. Hunched over headed to the thick stuff. Told him to take a look but back out if it doesn't look good. He did at 10 am and we went back in at 1 pm. Again we looked at google maps to see the funnels that the deer may take. The thick stuff was an area inside the hard woods. He went on one side I went on the other. Upon circling around I saw the deer bedded looking right at me. 40 yards shot put him down. We have been blessed this year with venison. 7 bucks and two doe. Not an ounce will go to waste we all love it so much. Oh BTW scrapes opened up last night here are two.1 point

Gearing up for an afternoon sit in Henderson Harbor. The snow is so deep on the hill it's next to impossible to get into where we hunt. Then even my private land is covered by 3 ft making it Alot of work to make that half mile trek. There is only about a ft in Henderson making my choice easy. Good luck to everyone going out. Sat out for 4 1/2 Hours in my double chair blind this afternoon . Freezing cold with a SW wind making it colder . Didn't see a thing . At about 4:15 my oldest son pushed the thickets and kicked out a doe that my grandson shot . At least the day wasn't a total waste .1 point

Not even close to being a 200 lber. She is probably 145 lbs which is bigger than normal . Big does always look bigger than they really weigh. One year in Northern Maine one of the guys shot a 177 lb 8 pt buck and another guy at my camp shot a 168lb Doe which is HUGE ! These were weighed on certified scales at the tagging station. That huge Doe looked WAY BIgger than the buck hanging on the game pole. She looked like a horse hanging there . I can honestly tell you the 168 lber field dressed looked much bigger than the Doe in your pic1 point
