Fox News is the best
Kmartinson replied to Chef's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
All news is full of lies. May be BBC or something international has some truth but American media is totally controlled by the rich on both sides. -
There are so many options. Some states have alot of public access, others have almost none. Long term leases with logging companies can be awesome. Leasing things from other hunters can be problematic. You can research many areas for the amount and caliber of deer killed. Take your time, I would want full control for the whole season, as well as other seasons and shed hunting. Get your money's worth. Deer don't like people, and change thier pattern based on pressure, even 1 week of presure can drive deer off of the land for months at a time. Often when people hear about certain states they think it's a honey hole, but in reality they wants the prime hunting and soneone else to share the cost with. Unless something is worth the cost to you as a hiking spot I also wouldn't purchase anything I didnt scout thoroughly. I've concentrated my efforts in ny and created great caliber of deer on our lease. Im also generally aware of multiple bucks on public.

In the circumstance that I was relayed, it was not thrown out. This person was definitely prosecuted for some level of larcen. Money talks though. Lawyers are capable of alot. -

In the past, we haven't had much luck prosecuting trespassers, that being said if you give someone a formally Dec delivered warning it usually keeps them away. No one wants to lose vehicles and equipment. I have found multiple dead bucks with antlers and heads cut off around the lease and unfortunately no one has ever been caught. We now use cell cams often and set them up high using some climbing sticks. I did hear a good story about a guy who put a monster shed out in front of a camera in direct view of a posted sign. When someone someone snagged it he could be prosecuted for stealing the shed. -
I would blend all of these suggestions and eventually you could have some more quality substrate. You dont have to buy a fancy mix go to your local farm store and experiment for a couple seasons. Alfalfa and clover seem awesome for us and beets/turnips in late season.

Did you get ph? Mixed seeding is great.

Using Cell cameras during the off season
Kmartinson replied to fasteddie's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Definitely year round, you can get alot of scouting in from the use of SD card reader. Also hang them in swamps for birds and roost areas for the turkeys. -

I think they really make a difference. More shot better pattern. I dont care what other guys do but Im all for best ability to kill. I even considered 10g. in the past but 12g 3.5 is pretty is pretty great!

I really bagged on mossberg for a long time until my buddy bought me a ulti-mag, it is truly a great gun. Dependable and very good shooter. I use it in muddy fields for geese and frozen shore lines for ducks in late season. It has replaced my dad's 1100 for most of my dirty work and foul weather hunting. It's really a great gun, I have many chokes for it and 3.5 inch is a real luxury, almost a necessity for big spring Toms.

Buying a shotgun in Jersey
Kmartinson replied to virgil's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Makes sense. I'm not a big collector so I don't really pay attention too much. I pick one up every year or 2, or if I start a new adventure. I'm thinking .223 next for varmint. -
If you got an effective 2nd shot on a bear in any cover you didn't need it. Lol. I couldn't even cycle the bolt on my 30-06 before it was out of the plot and disappeared to its final resting place 40 yds away.

Buying a shotgun in Jersey
Kmartinson replied to virgil's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I don't understand, are you not ny state resident? Upstate in all of the stores I visit have guns in stock and they run a check in that moment and give you your gun. This seems like alot of work just to spend your money in dirty ol jersey? -
You definitely have to be patient and get what you want. Also I'll come set up the food plots with you.... access is key!!! (Lol inside joke)

I reckon with a million dollars I could make that happen.

May be your right im over stepping. I've read same thing alot of times. The crazy thing is your both on forum for the same reasons. Your both hunters and outdoorsman....
-
Honestly by constantly targeting whoever your talking about, you are kind of being a hypocrite, and your not adding anything positive, you just keep cutting him down. Rise above and add some good stuff to the forum. You find the other guy so inadequate as a hunter compared to you and you just keep feeding into it. He's clearly set in his ways, but obviously so are you. I can't imagine it's good for your heart to keep letting his rhetoric bother you so much?

Trespassing and Camera Stealing Stories and Solutions

Funny story, some one pulled off the road to use the mother nature facilities and spotted a camera this late season. I'm probably glad I didn't get those. I have had a few stolen til I started hanging them up 1 stick high. Often times we just want to see the headgear. -
On the board in ithaca ny! 7 miles in and this one I find is out the car window, lol. First road shed ever.

Teeth are pretty helpful. I have been surprised when 120"+ deer turn out to be 2.5, and have a 100" 4.5yr old.... also as stated previously this is a hot topic that often times people can't seam to agree on. Glad to learn the skull cap thickness is more reliable. Also imo the structure of the deers body seems to really make a huge change between 2.5 and 3.5. I would guess lots of big 2.5 deer are mistaken for 3.5 based on antlers but bone thickness seems more appropriate from my experience.
