That is pretty cool!

I would have to agree with a quick scout and stand set up. Its small so go scent free as possible and get it done ASAP. Good luck with it, looks like a nice spot. I would not bother with a food plot it looks like a great travel area. Middle would be my choice if I had to.

When the DEC officer comes to the location with his rangefinder he will check EVERY house, shed and or dwelling. If you do not have written permission you will get a ticket.
-
By law you are suppose to have written permission from every dwelling within 150 ft of your tree stand. In many residential area's this includes more than just the owner that lets you hunt it can include 1-5 houses depending on where you are located.

I thought that was you! If you want next time we can shoot together. That was a fun shoot! The Silver Arrow is the September 13th if anyone is interested. This is the shoot we usually get a larger turn out because it is so close to the season. SCbklyn The shoot is in Huntington, we have a beautiful course come test your skills and have some fun! www.suffolkarchers.com

Great way to oversimplify it but in reality they are two different worlds. Many things on public land are out of the hunters control. You can't save a area because 10 others have hunted it before you did. You can not do any management on state land property. No modifying trail, food plots, or even cutting limbs in your shooting lane. Your best spots usually have several other hunters who use the same spots. Some hunters still-hunt making the deer aware of our presence others from tree's, knowing how deer will react to this presser is not the same as private land usually due to the abundance of hunters on state land. Knowing the deer helps but it is much more involved on state land than private from my experience. State land you have to factor in knowing the hunters as much as knowing the deer because a bad hunter can change a deer's travel routes, travel times and even bedding area's, really bad hunters can make them leave the area too. Or at least the area you have access to hunt! Private land usually has much less intrusion by other hunters making the days you do not hunt a sanctuary for the deer that they feel safe in. That is not the case in state land unless you are talking about a lot of land where hunters do not encroach on each other. Simply put I can pattern a deer on private land and every year on that land the deer will pass by the same area 100%, not even close on state land. Hunters cause them to adapt more as they put more presser on them.

That is just awesome!

If that one buck is a yearling he could be a real brute if he gets some age. Wow and the rest of the bucks are very impressive. Thanks for sharing!

They are fun to hunt. As a kid I took my share, I was bad.

The usual: Some new broadheads not sure which ones yet. Some type of 2 blade expandable as they seem to shoot the best for me. Possibly another set of boots. Always like to try some new rain gear as I pretty much love the bad weather hunting. Waterproof gloves or just another pair as back up for wet weather.

Lord we ask that you guard and protect our law enforcement officers and firefighters. Deepest sympathy for the friends and families of these officers. RIP

Nice buck! Good luck with him. How old do you think he is?

Very cool, thanks for sharing!

I use to save my tags for the first four days of the ADK early bow season, now that is over as of this year. No more incentive to hunt ADK early bow now. I picked up the bow in 2001 and got back into it in 2011. Started hunting LI a few years ago for more practice on hunting low population areas like the ADK. Starting to switch towards harvesting doe in high population area's where I now hunt private property. Heavy restrictions on buck anter size on the private area's, I am told it must be in the 130 class or better to shoot, started this about 2 years ago. Bow has changed my hunting time from around 2-3 weeks to about 4 months but by January I am pretty burned out. I do not hunt as many southern zone area's as I use to and spend most of my extra time chasing deer on LI as it is close easy and fun. Not much has changed with my ADK hunting. Still go to Moose River Plains and gave up on trying to convince the hunting party to try another area. Still hunting, ambush and tracking are my preferred methods along with calling them in which is just too much fun and the most fulfilling way to hunt for me. I also enjoy getting new hunters into deer and deer hunting and have found it to be just as rewarding as getting the deer myself.

They got the SOB!!!

I was watching some deer video's and came across these two. I got a good laugh out of them. This first video is PG. but the second video is R rated due to a few F bombs but the second video is hysterical. Funny how both videos have a Jeff in them and Jeff is posting about them, lol. This is funny video but this is the R rated one so keep the kids out of the room for this one. OMG I was cracking up watching this! 3:55-3:58 I must have watched 3 dozen times, tooo funny! Reminds me of my X but she was never this much fun! This was their second video. Again R rated I thought the first was better but this was funny to.

I have witnessed how the moon affects other animals like fish and birds. It is just a trigger for the Whitetail doe to come into heat. It is how doe use the proper calendar for best birth timing. (That is their clock.) They are affected by low presser systems, steady high presser, high temperatures, food source, availability and nourishment, cover, presser from people, other deer and predators. So why wouldn't they all come into heat at the same time? Many in groups do but not all groups do at the same time. Add in the health of the doe, age and size of group and body cycle, well plain and simple each animal is different and one area could see the doe come into heat later than another, add in early and late doe and second or third cycles and you could basically see anything at any time from mid October to January. Each one of us has our own perspectives on what we "see" in the woods and each one of us can come up with something that will deflate any "theory". I guess this is why we call them animals, beasts etc. No one is exactly the same and each has a personality of their own and they can brake any rules we make for them. This is why IF you can observer your prey you can get a better understanding of how they work but that does not mean it works that way everywhere. The old saying "My Neck Of The Woods" was never so appropriate.

Most I know use tree stands, and others just set up a blind. The blind is the easy way to go as set up is easy and you can take it with you when you leave. Otherwise like DeerDuck stated we have many unethical hunters who will steel cameras, blinds and or tree stands so most guys I know take the stand down after hunting. Only other option is private property but they can disapear in these spots too. Personally I like to still hunt but on state land it is pretty hard as most of these area's get pounded pretty good by many hunters and the deer tend to key in on this. PS: If you are interested in Rocky Point let me know because I will be hunting this area more this year. Or if you want to check out Suffolk Archers and walk the course we can do that too. Send a PM if you are interested in either.

I have the camo arrow. L-R Charlie, Me (Jeff), Tom, Chris and Hector. We had a running deer I shot a 10 on and one of the guys shot it just as it was released and missed, I could not stop laughing and claimed cheater, I felt bad as the other shooters could not stop laughing either. It was a fun day with great shooting. Our scores were messed up as we shot 2 arrows the first half of the course but we had a great time and wrote if off as a fun day. Hector was the only other to get a 10 on the running deer. Lucky shot for sure. Here it is.
