Here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Funny how this starts on the fall equinox! But deer can't tell time? They know the planet and its cyles better than we do thats for sure. As far as I am concerned this is the kick off for the earliest pre-rut to begin with does getting bred and bucks testosterone level rising to a peak in about 30 days and will last as long as doe can be bred, usually for 2 months or longer. JMO I hope to see the color of your woods this fall ChefHunter86, good luck and paint it RED! OMG this post has me pumped!

I think it depends on area and type of hunting. Staying in one spot I think it works to a degree but many times it can spook the deer from what i have seen. They know basically every deer in the area so when a new scent comes in one concentrated spot they sometimes pick up that it's not natural and spook. Set up is everything. I think that's funny how they come to check air fresheners! If I really used them I would try to get them from 4 Season Whitetail or someone who had a deer farm. The problem with them is if the guy down the road uses love potion #9 and you use something similar the deer will spook at your property because he was spooked at the other property with the exact same scent. Getting it from a breeder is the best as long as its kept cool. I would ask for interdigital scent, if you want to set up something unique that the hunter next door will not use or have, mock scrape time with interdigital AHH yes! Sounds good anyway. I only use cover scent when still hunting maybe a little doe in heat to freshen up, lol j/k. Best scents are common sense.

If we could actually get some rain to wash some of the scent away I think it would help but rain is not something I am familiar with as I have not seen any in a long time, lol. Like stated above go for it! I would not worry to much as the deer are not wise to us hunters, yet. Good luck with your new area, I hope you have much success!

The other issue I have is the estimated population numbers! I just feel that even if we shot 4000 deer the DEC would say we failed. And then they can keep getting funds to TRY snipers, food stations with bug spray, doe birth control etc. The word agenda keeps flashing in my mind especially when we are blind sided like this year. Then the DEC can say see we gave the bow hunters a chance and they failed! The 150ft rule is checked by what ever officer is patrolling. Maybe some might let the 150ft rule slide but I know for a fact one individual asked to see permission from EVERY dwelling within 150ft and he check every dwelling and every permission slip! The burden of proof is on you, you are guilty until you prove otherwise! Does anyone think the judge will side with you vs the ECO? I hope to never find out as one stand is in this situation. Shooting a deer so it gets placed in a dump is not how I envisioned hunting when I signed up. Many consider them rats so I guess many think this is OK. Not me. I have a chance to hunt one area that supposedly has too many deer, I will do my part IF I GET ACCESS! For most hunters this is the issue. Want to help cull the population have the towns get a web site for hunters to sign up and then match them with land owners who want deer removed and don't restrict residents only unless you really do not want hunters and just want to further the agenda.

I could not agree more or have said it better myself. Shooting deer so they get placed into a dumpster is not what I envisioned when I signed up for deer hunting. Nor was I aware that my duty as a hunter was to eliminate as many doe as I can find.
-
Used them one time and it was a pain in the neck. I keep a pair in the day pack but will only use them if I gut shot the deer, hope I never use them!

Nice looking buck Tio1, good luck with him this year, hope to see you later on with him!!!

That sucks, hope you get it fixed quick as the season is so close! Good luck FastEddie!

Nice buck! Regardless of what you do, I hope you have a great year! Good luck!

All day hunt, partial sitting. A few pens, Tupperware with large triple decker sandwich, chips soda trail mix, energy bars. Knife, flashlights, GPS extra bat, 2 compasses, map, dressing gloves, extra gloves, rain jacket and pants extra pants and jacket for cold days. Extra orange hat and vest. Buck and doe calls, drag rope, paracord, radio if friends are with me, fire starter, small first aid kit, crazy glue. Extra release for bow. Lighters. Toilet paper!!! Binoculars and rangefinder during bow, no rangefinder for rifle. Foam seat is attached to the day pack and I slip it under the pack when hiking. Camera, sometimes. ADK or deep woods. I lighten the pack up on LI as the weather is usually mild and getting stuck or lost is not really an option plus the cell phones work. Even less when I am monkeying around in a tree.

I believe most are saying no and I agree as long as the buck does not spot you shooting the doe.
-
If the buck you are after is in the group and will see or hear you shoot I would hold off, otherwise shoot. BKhunter I believe that is true.
-
I usually see them just after first light heading back to the den I figure. Nice pics, love that story Lawdwaz!

Allergies suck! Hope you feel better Lawdwaz, better now than during hunting season. Chicken noodle soup! Always helps me out along with Nyquil Sudafed and nasal sprays. Hope you recover quick as the season is right around the corner!

That is pretty awesome to be able to pass that one for a friend! Hats off to you WNY Bowhunter!!! He would be border line on private property but I would shoot if stalking on state land! Hope your buddy appreciates you and I hope to see him later on this year with that buck!!!

He is a nice one!

This is funny because I have hunted in the back of a few churches with permission from them.

Its to make a home able to use wireless phones without running a wire to each phone. Basically it is a wireless phone system for your POTS line. It has other uses for trucks but the description is not very good.

Remove back tags Coyote hunting all year Lower the minimum hunting age Extra buck tags for every 3 doe killed on LI only good on LI. Limit 2, 3rd if hunter shoots 10 more doe. Talk about incentive! Shoot 16 doe and you get 3 extra buck tags. Remove the first two weeks for bow season with NO BUCKS in Suffolk county!

The doe is the one who gets the rut going not the buck. So the buck looking up at the moon is a funny comment. The rut is not when the doe is in heat and being bread that is called lock down. We can argue this to no end but I will leave it as believing the moon is a trigger for the doe to come into heat. It is the only clock they have because they are not capable of counting up to 365 days. Daylight change and moon phase are the ONLY way they can tell time and it is a better clock than we have. To me thinking that deer will follow our calendar date of November the 10th just seems silly. (Wonder what they would do on leap year!) But someone will see them breed every year on that date and swear the moon is irrelevant. Others will see breading on the 1st of November or the 17th and say HA that 10th day is wrong. All I can say is I love November 7th and 9th my two lucky days! Must have been all luck because the tracking and stalking and calling and everything else that lead to them happened during the RUT so all my skills are irrelevant because I did no scouting or prepping in this state land and stalked them on the ground. Guess I should give up state land buy some property and set up funnels and tell others how beginners get lucky in them. Arg Not trying to bash property owners but some of the new opinions on this site are very narrow minded. ok I am done.

With the babble he wrote already I doubt he has any facts to back up his words except big city folks are buying his previous hunting grounds and now he needs to find a new spot. I am done with this post.
-
ok lol I tried. Simple range time was all I was looking for but ok. And I though you where a girl. I like how when my opinion does not match yours you think I NEED TO MAKE MINE BETTER, lol. Carry on, I am done.

gjs4 I am not trying to bash you. Hell one of my first posts was asking why hunters could not pass on young deer and shoot something a bit older. Boy was I put in my place! But you know what I understood the points the other meat hunters where making and it changed my view. Many hunters do not practice like they should. Hell most of the bow hunter are just starting to get ready to take the first shot of the year and after about 20 they are READY!??? We would all like to have the hunters be proficient with the weapons they use but fact is many lead lives other than deer hunting, unlike most of us addicts on this site they lead a normal life and do not revolve around deer hunting. We are the exception and many of us strive for perfection but as we get older and our bodies wear out we learn that we do not have to be perfect to kill a deer. You talk about accuracy, are you up for a challenge? Me vs you offhand, bench, bow, rifle, you name it and prove how much of an expert you are vs a laymen like me. I am sure we can not use the same bow but we can use the same guns. We can use open sights with no rest to start. Challenge is ready are you?

Wow great shots and that buck is a real beauty! Good luck with him!
