  1. We should tell the DEC the same thing about deer! The more they kill the more that get reproduced.
  2. Because I really love whitetails! Simply put it is in my nature to chase them, like stated before I can not explain it I just have to do it! Not just any whitetail will do for me it has to be special. For me this usually involves calling them into me for a shot. Hunting in nasty weather where everything tells you to go home and have a hot cup of soup is when I love hunting the most and for me the woods are home in those special moments. Simply put it feels perfect when I am in the woods in the worst weather. Rain is my least favorite due to tracking blood becomes an issue and my gear takes a beating. Add the other posts above to my list, they all match my thinking!
  3. Cool shots! This is the closest to a group shot this year. The guys left before I could get one with everyone.
  4. They call us the elite yet they want to change thing so they have an advantage. Sounds like the shoe is on the other foot. We as bow hunters are trying to preserve how bow hunting is now, that is all. Coming changes will include X bow so in a few years they can add gun in what was suppose to be an archery only season and why not add muzzle loader into the picture? This is why we resist these changes. Bow season was suppose to be for the harder weapon and the X-bow does not fit that description as so many have proved. It is an easy weapon to use, nothing like a compound, recurve or traditional which requires some strength and skills to become proficient. The X bow requires none of this that is why we consider it a gun type of weapon.

    Bucks!

Lets just say his reputation precedes him!
  6. So true! Many times when these accidents happen they are doing something illegal to begin with. The poor judgment of doing these acts seems to be related to having no common sense and poor judgment at identifying prey. Then some wonder why we get so pissed off at people who makes it look like this is common. Safety is the last thing these people think about and is why they are so dangerous!
  7. Nice buck Tarhellsaint! Congrats, real beauty!
  8. Very nice buck!!! Congrats to your dad, awesome deer. Love the reaction to the cam!

    Bucks!

Take it for what it is a really nice buck from Long Island. I let the DEC do the work of legitimacy. Just because something about is fishy does not mean it was illegal.

I do not know the guy so I can not say. Never got the full story on this deer. Don't want to point fingers without knowing for sure.
  11. You had to tell me this now! I do not want to go to the stores NOW!!! lol but I will. Arg. And I do not need more clothes but I ripped my rain gear dragging a few deer out this year so here I go.

    Bucks!

I can tell you the #2 and 4 pics where right after the kill so no tag needed until dragged out to the vehicle. In so far as finding them on the web you probably will not, many of these deer never get posted EVER! They feel if they advertise where they took the deer it will all change. The last buck #4 was a direct results of NYS DEC setting up fake deer and catching poachers! Now that the land is not being poached all of a sudden larger class of deer are present who would have thought! Thanks NYS DEC!!! I can tell you they are all NYS deer. That is a fact.

The 3rd deer was suppose to be for this guy but he missed! His partner did not! Better luck next time Dom!

    Bucks!

The first pic they went to close so as to make it look larger. It is not the legitimacy of the pic in question it is if it was taken in fair chase. I have no facts so it is what it is. The pic is distorted due to being so close to make it look larger.

    Bucks!

These are some of the larger deer I have seen taken in NY this year. First pic still has the jury out as to the legitimacy of the animal and how it was taken. No facts so I will not point a finger. (LI) Second pic was in Prattsville area, third pic was my buddy's friend who did NOT miss the shot that my buddy did (LI) and the last shot is of a member at my archery range (Catskill area). All with bow except for 2nd picture, not sure of weapon used but I think it was gun. 1-2 and 4 are just slobs that any hunter in NY would be proud of and #3 is pretty nice also! This is not to mention all the brutes on other sites like www.NYantleroutdoors.com Some real amazing deer in NY if they can get some age!
  16. But I am not done with this season! lol Only one more month to go, unless they extend it this year on LI.
  17. No sling at all on my preferred gun as it is so light no need, 44 mag model 94 (Trapper). The 30-30 and 30-06 I use them but never take them off and use them to help steady the shot like others have posted.
  18. To all my brothers and sisters at HuntingNY.com Merry Christmas I hope you enjoy the holidays in whatever you celebrate! Here is my smile for you all or yall, lol.
  19. Smoking and drinking in the woods is just plain stupid. Going to the range and smoking a joint before you start shooting? Measuring your drive time by how many beers you can drink? You are really fitting the profile redneck!
  20. If you are still interested in this trip I might have an open spot for you at my campsite next year. Think about it and let me know. You would have a base camp to hunt out of and would only need your hunting gear food and a sleeping bag, I have an extra cot to sleep on and one bunk bed. Trip would be around November 8th -21st. We would need to meet before this happened so I can go over the rules in camp and talk a bit more before I allow it. I am in charge of safety at camp and take the job seriously, basically you would have to pass the interview to go. I shoot at Suffolk Archers with bow and Ridge rifle range with the gun. Maybe we could have some other members meet us up their and try to teach and learn from each other. I would love to have a HuntingNY.com hunting trip!
  21. I do the same thing you do. I pass many deer. I was told I should start shooting them for experience, so I shot a doe last year. (Could have doubled up!) This was my second shot on any deer with a bow and I can see where shooting more deer will help with making the shot seem second nature. Like stated above the actual shooting, tracking and recovering deer can be a big part of your experience and if you want to get better at that part shooting more will help. I had "Doe fever" when I went to shoot a doe and had to pass, I said what the hell is that tapping sound in the stand? Well it was me shaking in anticipation of the shot! 1) Shooting more will give you valuable experience in shooting at them, tracking, shot placement and controlling your nerves. 2) That valuable experience will help when shooting at a larger buck or a longer distance shot or smaller target like a fawn. (Less nerves will keep your shot steady.) 3) It will make shooting them seem second nature if you shoot more, causing less stress on you when you take a shot. This will make you a better hunter if you get bad nerves like many of us do. I have to agree with the posts above, shooting more will make you a better shot on live deer and can help you become a better hunter in that aspect. That said I still pass many deer and do what I want to do vs what others think I should do. For me personally seeing over 100 deer in the year alone is a success, I do not need to shoot them to prove to myself that I can and really enjoy doing what I do! Nothing wrong with shooting more for experience, it will only help you and I should be doing the same but I am having too much fun looking for that one special buck! Enjoy what you do and hunt how you want, good luck!
