http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/regions_pdf/rockypthunt.pdf Shows 7a South of 25 on the map, I believe 33a is behind the Ridge check station. I do not see it on this map, it was on last years map, not sure why they do not show it.

Duck opener tomorrow. A bit worried about my lab
NFA-ADK replied to Al Bundy's topic in Waterfowl Hunting
I would get something for her or at least plan on a short hunt in case she gets cold. That is some cold weather for a lab. -
Extensive is an understatement! That land is vast! lol

It seems to be ok for me. Try doing this. Click on Customize and control google chrome on the top Right side. Looks like 3 vertical lines. Click on Settings then at the bottom of that page click on advanced settings. At the bottom it will say Reset Settings, click on that and click on reset. This should reset the browser to its defaults. Then test it again and see if it still does the same thing.

North has another designation that is off limits. Around Big Moose Lake. Stated in the post above about the DEC.

What browser are you using. IE, firefox, Chrome?

How many more pages of this do you all want to argue? Nothing will change the other persons point of view. Personally I have heard the results of this weapon being used by poachers already. To me this weapon is nothing like a bow. You can not rest a bow on anything when shooting, it remains loaded at all times as the sting is cocked and new advances in this weapon make it much closer to a gun than any bow on the market that most of us use. The velocity and weight of the bolt is nothing like a bow as the KE is vastly different. The only similarity is the fact that both use a sting and broadhead, nothing else is similar. Will it affect me, probably not, I primarily hunt LI with bow and doubt that weapon will be allowed after the issues of poaching exposed to the DEC last year. A few houses where hit with bolts last year on LI! Will I be against its full inclusion, yes. Should they make allowances for hunters who can not shot a regular bow sure, no objections to that. For me to say the crossbow is the same as a compound or traditional bow that literally requires excessive practice and usually months of training to become proficient will never happen because I know the X-bow can be at the same level of precision with one shooting session. Most traditional shooters are limited to 25 yards and 30 is a real stretch. Show me a traditional bow that someone can shoot past 50 yards as accurately as a X-bow and I will say they are the same, and it has to be a new shooter! Hell the experienced shooters can't even do that! But yes they are the same, LOL!!! PS: I do not need any replies, I am done with this thread as it is not going to change anyone's opinion regardless of what is said. Time to move on and glad I am not following this anymore.

Sounds like fun! Good luck and go get them!!! -
Last time I checked their is a zone from old forge to inlet (Basically around 1st lake through 4th lake is a protected zone.) This is taken directly from the DEC web site. Closed Areas: The following closed areas are specific portions of the state where the taking of deer and bear is prohibited by the Environmental Conservation Law. This section does not include areas covered by town laws, local ordinances or posting by landowners. Albany County-Area around Alcove Reservoir: bounded by Albany County Rt. 111 from Rt. 143 to Albany-Greene County line to Albany County Rt. 411 to Rt. 143 to point of beginning. Closed except to landowners and lessees of lands in the area actually occupying and cultivating such lands. Erie County-Area around Buffalo: bounded by Tonawanda Creek from East Branch Niagara River to Rt. 78 to Greiner Rd. to Rt. 268 to Rt. 5 to Ransom Rd. to Rt. 33 to Rt. 78 to Rt. 20 to Rt. 20A to Lake Erie. Herkimer County-Area along Big Moose Lake: bounded by Judson Rd. from Herkimer-Hamilton County line to Higby Rd. to Big Moose Rd. to Martin Rd. and along it to its eastern end and then to the lake shore and back (starting westerly) along the shore to Herkimer-Hamilton County line and along it to Judson Rd. Herkimer and Hamilton Counties-Area bounded by Rt. 28 from Old Forge to Inlet and by South Shore Rd. from Inlet to Old Forge. Nassau County-All of Nassau County. New York City-All of the city

They have a high population of deer that's for sure, probably has to do with the fact that no hunting is allowed in the area, one of the few area's up north where deer hunting is not allowed. They use to feed them at the gate and often I hear of deer being taken in that area, usually from poachers. Bear population is probably higher in the area but to say they are all over would be an exaggeration to say the least. Probably a few that stay in the area, just like when I see over 20 deer in a day more often than not they are the same group of deer passing me multiple times. If you want an area with high bear population hit the dumps in North Creek area, that has a high population! Probably not the best tasting though.

Binoculars vs monocular. For hunting.

Lost mine a few weeks ago. Old Bushnell's. Time to start shopping. -
Our winter league starts in January, I will start after deer season is over in February. Anyone who has not tried it should get a group together or just go solo, it is a lot of fun if you just go to have fun!
