  1. I don't think you can use VHF on land, not sure of the regulations in that state. The radios are good but like stated your line of sight is key. 36 miles is possible but I have only heard it work from one mountain to another with perfect line of sight on clear days. Typically it depends on your line of sight, humidity and how many leaves are on the trees. Simply put the more obstructed it is the worse your connection is. I have used Midland and Motorola, both work similar. It is really the only option in remote area with no cell towers. Good luck!

    Bucks!

I have to agree, many really good bucks are never seen on the web, many of these hunters want to keep the spot and the deer they take hush hush so no other hunters come into the area and ruin the hunting spots for these guys. If you check out some of the other posts on this site you will see other mature deer taken, this is just my post. Many really nice bucks taken throughout the state, western part of the state produces many awesome bucks and a bunch of other spots do as well just not everyone want to show them off to the web. I do agree with you gjs4 many bucks taken are 2.5 or younger but that is what meat hunters do is shoot the first deer available. If you are in an area with high presser sometimes this is the most mature deer they have available to hunt. Hard for someone to pass a 4 point when he is the only buck they ever see for the entire season. And yes many young or inexperienced hunters will still shoot the first buck they see, not everyone has the control of a big buck hunter it is something you have to really want and have got to have excellent self control. Much easer to shoot the first one and say your successful and go home. Only way to change that would be to mandate state wide AR and I know many would be very upset if this was implemented. More and more hunters are passing young deer but it only takes one camp of brown and down to ruin an area. I can say that on LI alone there are many other deer that are not posted. I posted 2 from LI. I would bet that over 30 mature bucks where taken from LI this season but most will never hit the web. Many hunters keep the deer and area they hunt quiet.
  3. Love it when a plan works out! Congrats sounds like a great hunt!

    Bucks!

Four What is your point gjs4? They are just some pics, should I not post them?
  5. Spybot search and destroy removes a lot of the junk associated with popups. Blockers are ok but they do not remove the issue and many times it gets worse later on. Spybot is an easy program to use just make sure you uncheck all boxes when installing except the last page that says to open and update the program. If you experience any issues later on I would install this program from the web site download.com and remove everything it finds. Good luck Doc and glad it is ok now! PS: The MalwareBytes is a great program also and you can install it with the defaults if you have No antivirus protection. If you already have an Antivirus this can still be installed just uncheck the box that says "Enable real time protection" when installing. This way you can open it once a month or so and do an additional scan for spyware/viruses.
  6. Well that sucks, was hoping the wires would fix it or some other minor issue was the problem but no such luck. One thing I do use to preserve the engine is synthetic oil. That is one of the best improvements to lubrication that I have seen. Full synthetic is expensive but you can extend the oil change life with it and it does lub much better. Good luck with your new engine, hope the truck lasts you another 10 years!!!
  7. Just updating the records so confiscation will go smooth.
  8. If it persists let me know Doc, I have the option of viewing your computer remotely if you want additional help. Send a PM if you get fed up and want some help. You can watch everything that is being done while in the remote session and I would not have access to the machine after we are done.
  9. Often times spyware and addware are not detected by normal antivirus products. Typically I download Malwarebytes and Spybot search and destroy. They fix 90% of the issues I encounter, otherwise it is usually easer to just reinstall the Operating system. Both can be downloaded from download.com (http://download.cnet.com/windows/ ) but be sure to uncheck the box that says enable real time protection in Malwarebytes IF you already have an antivirus protection running. Otherwise you will have 2 antiviruses running at the same time (Real time protection) and that can slow you down. If you need a free AV product this is a decent one and gives real time protection for 30 days. VIP: When installing the Spybot search and destroy uncheck ALL boxes except the last box that says open when finished and perform updates. If you install this with the defaults it will take control of your security and it can be hard if you are not familiar with how that works. Read before you just click next! Installing these products allows you to keep you normal protection and then run these 2 separate when your normal protection is not repairing the issue. Make sure you update as these and any protection is only as good as the last update!
  10. Congrats on another epic hunt with an awesome deer!!! Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
  11. Very VERY nice buck!!! Congrats on an awesome deer, he is a stud!
  12. Not trying to bust chops but no need to jack all 4 if the front do not move, just get the back off the ground. Much safer than trying to get the entire truck up on jacks.
  13. Hope you had a great day! Happy belated B-Day!
  14. Good luck Rob. I have seen very few turnkey in the ADK woods, one spot is on this ridge by site 40 in Moose River if anyone want to give it a shot it is a good spot with elevated position. From site 40 head due south (slightly west) and follow the west ridge to the end. Closest to open fields you will find without being in a swamp! Good spot for a stand as we have seen bucks walk the ridge. The deer tend to funnel out of the river/swampy area into this location, turkey where feeding in the valley floor. If you walk the ledge be careful it is a bit narrow and steep. Site 41 is easer to get to the spot. Location is just west of the #4 in the elevation of 430 shown in the valley.
  15. Almost ready for football, one more weekend of hunting to go! Did I miss anything?
  16. Could be related to the notifications. I know it sometimes that slows me up when I get notifications on the top right. Try allowing pop-ups on huntingny.com. You could also clear you temp files and reset the browser to its defaults. What browser are you using. I notice with chrome it shows me the notification but in IE it gives a warning at times. Allowing pop-ups on this site should help. Hate to loose you Doc, you are another favorite poster here! Let me know what browser you are using and I will try to help if I can.
  17. Ham/turkey and cheese sandwich, triple decker. Something always happens when I am eating! I need to make that this weekend as it will be the last until October! Pringles and Pepsi are a must.
  18. Hang in there Buckmaster7600! I don't have a shotgun, yet. Only hunting my dad did was as a kid with a 22.
  19. Cover the bottom of the swing set and put in a chair, perfect blind! Or just go up tops if you fit!
  20. Best bet when bleeding brakes is to try and place a hose around the line and place the other end in brake fluid container, this way all the fluid does not run out, make sure the container is above the line and keep the master cylinder closed until the job is done. This will prevent the entire line from filling w/air and make the bleeding a standard procedure instead of needing another diagnostic tool to purge the air. ABS sometimes requires special procedure to purge all the lines. Some even require special tools like the S10 Blazer. 100,000 miles on the wires, I would say that is a problem. Bet you notice the issue more when it is wet out! Rain makes the wires arc as water transmits electric better than air. This can be tested by power braking the engine and looking for sparks in the dark, just make sure you block the tires and put extra strong leg on the brake to prevent vehicle from moving. Sometimes you can hear the "Tick" of the arc and notice that is when it runs rough. Sounds like you are closer to a fix, good luck!
  21. If you have a lot of carbon build up it can clog the engine. A quicker way of doing this it to remove the air intake and spray top engine cleaner into the throttle body. It can cause misfire when doing this so sometimes it will set off a check engine light. You have to rev the engine when spraying the cleaner to keep it running. Usually one can will clean most things out. Good luck, hope that's all it was is carbon build up! (Usually I do the top engine cleaner before replacing plugs as this can foul them out.)
  22. Well I am still addicted to Whitetails. While Moose, Elk and other members of the deer family are interesting to me, nothing gets me pumped like a big buck will. For me any remote hunting location is ideal, just something about taking a buck in his house while still hunting that takes it to another level. Bucket list would be to still hunt brown bear in Alaska with the bow. My ultimate dream hunt happens every year in the ADK, I would like to be even more remote but it fills my fix for deep woods hunting. The ultimate trip would be if my buddy Shawn gets his first whitetail (Mature like he wants.) in the ADK this his 30th year hunting with me!
  23. I lost 2 in the woods, lol, I used them for rattling. Lost the other one at hunting camp, was a good luck charm I passed around and never saw again. I have a few others from friends I leave in the TV room, good conversation pieces. Never really hunted for them looks like fun and another excuse to go into the woods. Love the lamps Wooly!
