  2. Sorry, I don't have much knowledge of this specific area. I would suggest studying some maps and make a scouting adventure. Snow helps even the odds in the Adirondacks and allows stalking and a great chance to find some travel areas. Hunt the edge of swamps in the early morning and dust. When the rut is full on bucks wander in search of does in heat; otherwise, I've had success catching them sneaking between swamp cover and open hardwoods. My trail cam pictures show they become nocturnal as pressure mounts. Food sources in the deep woods can vary greatly from season to season and dictate deer travel. This fall near me the beech trees are full of nuts and they are a good food source. Also, winter kill can affect the herd from year to year. Last winter was cold and we had snow early and late for the winter season... Best of luck and hope I helped a little...
  3. Very nice work, I have been tying for a while now and it's relaxing and productive. My all time steelhead pattern in many differing colors is the "Rusher's Nymph", I tie up some weighted and some not. It's an easy tie and very effective.....
  4. Congrats to your family; nice seeing the kids involved and successful as well...
  5. Please, pass this along and help identify this SLOB of a person. https://poststar.com/news/local/police-seek-help-locating-man-who-tampered-with-tree-stand/article_66bb851f-1479-5306-972f-dc50e227a662.html#tracking-source=home-the-latest
  6. We utilize one of those "can cookers" loaded with some chicken stock, potatoes, onions, carrots and kielbasi....put it over a heat source and about 40 minutes later a great one pot meal. We've used it on the gas range, propane grill and over hot coals...there is a small vent hole for steam to escape and time cooking from when the steam starts. I love seafood and use it for "drunk'in clams", brown some hot sausage and add a bottle of beer, shallots and clams and steam for about 10 minutes and its ready to eat....
  7. I would believe you to be completely correct...
  8. I carry a Ruger "Security Six" .357 with a 4" barrel in a 2A chest holster most times hunting and backwoods brook trout fishing in the Adk's....during trapping season I switch up to a Browning Buckmark .22 pistol....
  9. Amazing story, that guy is lucky he's alive to tell his tale.... A very good read about a bear attack in Alaska and the road to recovery is: "Beyond the Bear" by Dan Bigley He was salmon fishing on the peninsula and was attacked and left similarly wounded and blind..
  10. They eat fish and definitely take on that fish taste, cbding said it best.... https://www.health.ny.gov/publications/2800.pdf
  11. Nail it to a cedar plank, cook it on the grill and throw out the bird and enjoy the plank... They are just plain nasty tasting and I've tried them a few times...
  12. Welcome back, I wish for you a speedy and complete recovery. It's a reminder to us all how valued our lives are and the time we have here.... Best wishes, Dan

  19. Hell yea we do !! We have a screen gazebo and right next to that is a short piece of culvert pipe buried that's the fire pit and we use it often and in all weather.... Just like being outside and watching the fire...
  20. I hunt the Adirondacks so it's always about the total experience of being at camp and hunting rather than deer take. I will not pass on a legal buck, I set no expectations about harvest whatsoever... I used to have access to the Southern zone on a farm but due to the death of my friend that was lost. When hunting at his family farm it was about harvesting younger bucks and filling the freezer. Best of luck to all.....
