  1. Hey you are gaining on me young fella, have a good one! Al
  2. Hell they can not or will not even disarm the thugs in Chicago whose every firearm they possess is illegal, good luck on the confiscation the millions and millions of guns throughout the country, it will not end well for all involved! Al
  3. I was and am a fan. "Marvelous" one of the all time pro boxing greats period and the best middleweight of all time in my opinion. He always attended the International Boxing Hall Of Fame weekend and was in the annual parades. I purchased a couple of fund raising raffle tickets one year and won a 20X16 autographed poster that hangs on a door in my gun room. RIP Marvin.
  4. That excuse is a year ago and water under the bridge, while it may have started with that scenario the current shortage is due to Democrat gun policies and laws which they are trying to push through as I speak and which they will continue to do as long as they are in positions of power. Mark my words this ammo problem is going to continue long after covid is gone so long as there are Democrats holding power. Al
  5. When it comes to money this is unfortunately human nature, they do not give way money out of the kindness of their heart, nobody is going to sell a box of ammo for $20 when they can get $100. As for the big box stores I have heard that employees can get first crack at buying any ammo that comes into inventory which they are doing and in turn reselling easily doubling and tripling their money. Until the Democrats whose non stop threats of controls are voted out this is going to continue. Al
  6. Norma powders have a very good reputation in the reloading community. I am not an expert on Norma powders but I have had extensive experience with Norma MRP and have nothing but good to say about it. MRP would not be suitable for the cartridges you have listed. Below is some data from Norma and I am sure some internet searches will provide you with more especially reloading sites. Looks like 201 is the powder for 223 but 202 looks like it should do well also. As for finding 30 m1 dies a quick search showed several sets for sale on ebay, do not be afraid to buy used as long as the dies were taken care of and are not rusty, I have yet to see a hand loader come close to wearing out a set of loading dies. 7. I like doing stuff like that but for me February is too early in the year, I can not leave the farm until at least early spring when I am sure there will be no more snow as the wife would not be able to handle chores around here. Al
  8. There were few things that would get me more excited than seeing those first spring Woodchucks emerging and standing up in their fields of melting snow. I would spend the winter handloading precision ammunition for my battery of varmint rifles and fine tuning them for accuracy getting ready for the upcoming hunts. Sadly there are not many Woodchucks around these days. Al
  9. Started out learning to shoot a bow with a glove over 50 years ago and am still using gloves. I tried a tab several times and while for target shooting I may group ever so slightly better I prefer the security of a quality glove for hunting so I stick with what I am comfortable and confident with. Al
  10. A hunter from Norway also uses his Airedale for game recovery, he never did say what species of Deer he had taken in the photo and I can not tell what it is myself. Al
  11. Hi Brooke and welcome to the board, your tie in to the thread is interesting to say the least. I came across this article a couple of years ago, it was written some time before by The Utica OD's outdoor writer John Pitarresi who did outdoor hunting and fishing articles for the newspaper for many years. I do not have any of the above paraphernalia myself. A place you may find such things is on ebay. Al
  12. That is using the old noodle Rob, looks good, as for Lee equipment I can say with certainty it will load ammo as good as any. I use wood worker's benches for for my reloading equipment and they too have drawers that can cause mounting problems. There are a couple of solutions from Lee and RCBS that utilize bench plates that are permanently mounted on the bench top and are not too obtrusive. Both have a bunch of mounting holes that will sine up with various presses and other bench mounted equipment. Equipment mounted to those plates can be removed and exchange by just a few bolts-screws in minutes. Lee offers wood blanks that can be used for odd ball stuff that does not line up with the plate holes. While you will not have a clean benchtop like Rob's setup the equipment can be removed if the bench is needed for use other that loading.
  13. If you are a shooter a good quality air rifle is at least for now is a good way to get productive trigger time in and power wise they are very capable of moderate range small game hunting on a relatively small budget. Al
  14. That is where training comes in, all of my hunting dogs are broke off Deer. Can be cured as easy as a simple slap of the leash or enrollment in TriTronics University for boneheads. Al

    Reloading

There are a bunch of folks that are handloaders on the board, go to the Guns and Rifles section down below and there is a sub board on reloading. Al
  16. Thorogood is part of the Weinbenner boot company, they are a first class outfit and were known for union USA made foot wear. I do not own any Thorogoods but I have a pair of Woods N Stream Kangaroo leather upland boots that are my favorites, they are another Weinbrenner brand that was USA made. I do not even use them for hunting, they are so comfortable I wear them as every day shoes. I expect your new Thorogoods to be excellent.
  17. As a kid and young adult I did not mind snow so much, snow forts, snowball fights, skating and sledding made it fun and tolerable. I looked forward to having a fresh snowfall to hunt snowshoe Hares at every chance could. Where I lived at the time I could shovel by hand our relatively short driveway in a half hour For the last 35years here on the farm with it's 2000 ft of driveway and animals to take care of it has been a different story, dealing with it's removal a lot of extra hard work. Spent half of yesterday working on the driveway and will finish up today and have to start shoveling some snow off my building's roofs. Now in my seventies I can honestly say I am sick and tired of it. Al
  18. Here is a nice one I found on Guns International Al
  19. And so do I, as far as I am concerned I would be a total hypocrite being chummy or having anything to do with anyone who voted for a person and party that is against just about everything my life revolves around!! Back stabbers! Al
  20. I do not know much about the Crescent brand but two things caught my eye. First it is a sidelock which leads me to believe it is a decent quality gun and second it is a 410 which will mean it is a very rare chambering and possibly worth some serious dough compared to the fifty bucks you paid although as they say condition is everything. I can see the stock is kind of rough but as long as there is no cracks (usually behind the sidelock plates) it can be spruced up and be refinished and the checkering recut. The metal itself looks to be in decent shape although the bluing is pretty much gone. Probably not chambered for 3 inch shells either so stick with the 2 1/2 inchers. As long as she locks up tight and no dents in the barrels it should be safe to touch off. Al
  21. About all I have to say is this board is turning into a real shithole!!! Al
  22. I have a modest collection of hunting knives and some are pretty nice but they are for looking at. For me my actual carry field knife is part of the whole hunting experience, my main carry knife is just a decent two blade Western from back when they were made in Colorado USA. I enjoy spending time sharpening it to a razor edge and seeing it do what it was designed to do when it comes to field dressing my animals. Al
