  1. When I was a kid my dad would bring home white hots from a butcher shop in Syracuse, I loved them. I haven't had any like them here in WNY. I don't know why they were better, it could just be my memory screwing with me!
  2. They say the hardest part of turkey hunting is putting 2 feet on the floor, but you have to get out of the tub and dry off!
  3. What makes that aluminum pot call cost over $100? I'll take a beautiful burled wood slate call any day.
  4. I've been doing my jerky using ground for years, but I butcher my own deer and there is literally no fat in the ground. I think it turns out great, IMHO. I can bite into a piece and not pull out my front teeth! I have made jerky using others deer meat and I do notice that you have to blot off the grease as it dehydrates. Otherwise you get those greasy white spots on the finished product.
  5. Sorry no pics but I cleaned out he fridge last night and ended up taking a baked potato, cutting it up skin and all, some butter, pulled pork, peppercorn ranch dressing, shredded cheddar cheese, and some dino bbq sauce. Nuked it and man it was delish!
  6. That looks great! Just curious where did you get the custom plate? I make some custom bow racks (check my avatar)and I am always looking for ideas for things to make and donate to my local NWTF banquet. What did you use for the final finish? I have been using wipe on poly from Minwax.
  7. I thought they called pulled pork w/ cole slaw on it a Carolina ?
  8. That sounds like a combination of a Carolina and a Cuban pulled pork sammy.
  9. Coffee dry rub? I've never heard of it before. How different is the flavor compared to a standard chili pepper rub? I have always used a standard dry rub for pork.
  10. any loud shocking sound can tip them off. I've heard them respond to train whistles, dump truck slamming the rear gate, thunder, and fog horns.
  11. I'm always late for the party, but here you go.. I'm the young guy 3rd from right , 2nd row.
  12. Trouble for you or anyone within 10 ft.of you!
  13. Otto is right, all you need is some Montreal steak seasoning, press it into the paddy and let sit for 20 minutes before grilling. oh ya then top them with Yancy steak onion cheese!
  14. I remember years ago approaching the Amherst town board with the help of NY bowhunters and at that time the board shot down the proposal as they believed that we "bowhunters" could not be efficient enough to take out the numbers of deer they believed was necessary. They voted to approve the police to do bait and shoot instead! That was then and now there is a completely different town board so maybe it's time to give it another try? You would think that they would listen if you could show how it would save them tax dollars and possibly even make money through the sale of permits. Also there are areas in the town that a bowhunter could access that are not safe to use the police sharpshooters.
  15. Lawd, I shoot hevi-13 #5 in 3.5" they seem to patter well in my Rem 870 w/ ex-full turkey choke. You want to get together to pattern some loads I'd be up for it as i put a gobble stopper scope on my gun and need to sight it in. we can shoot at my brothers any day after work.
  16. Happy B- day Philo, Enjoy the nice day. My wife and I are going to take the scooters out as both our kids are out of town and we have no other plans. Hoping the pulled pork is ready by dinner time! Happy Easter to all!
  17. That is kind of how I do my pork butts, I smoke them for 6 hours to get a good bark, then I placed them in my electric roaster set at 220*. Been in there for 14 hours and still stuck at 168*. I am thinking of putting them in the regular oven for a while as the electric roaster should have finished them by now.? This is the first time trying the electric roaster, usually I put them in the reg. oven but I thought I would try the roaster so I don't have to leave the oven on all night. This is the best the house has ever smelled at Easter!
  18. Kentucky Greg's is good but you really need to try Wild Bill's on County Rd. next summer when he's open. Best pulled pork next to mine! Speaking of it i'm going to do a couple of pork butts today in the smoker.
  19. I used to clean a 2 mile stretch of Rt 219 near Boston with the Niagara Frontier Chap. NWTF, did it for about 5 years. It started out great we would go out after for a few wings and brews but by the end it was always the same 3-4 guys showing up and it became a real chore. The trash people throw out while driving is incredible!
  20. where do you list hunting leases on craigslist? Just curious as i never thought to look on craigslist.
  21. do you use raw almonds? Just curious as i have some left over almonds that have gotten stale and i was thinking of trying to bring them back to life. In the past i just spread them on a cookie sheet and placed them in the oven, worked ok. The smoker idea sounds good.
  22. I don't go anymore, seen all the turkey calls I care to see, and I don't need anything for hunting. If this winter was like last year i would be looking for something to get me out of the house but this year I might just take the motorcycle for a ride. Although I will miss getting some gun raffle tickets from the few volunteer fire halls.
