  1. Danno, remember a guy by the name of George Quay? He made me one of his custom crow calls, if I knew how to post a picture here, I would show you.
  2. This coming weekend and into next week, the temps will be back up into the 50's again along with some sun!!!! If this is Global warming, I'm all for it!!! Also, I have read that this coming April, May, and June are to much warmer than usual too!! Good for the polts!!!
  3. Well stated. Like you I find most jackets that I own have a Gore-Tex lining for water and wind protection. Best part, is they don't come with a spot to hang your tag, and like you stated, I hate poking a hole into a very expensive jacket. They have talked about getting rid of those back tags for a couple of years now. Wonder if they will finally do it for this year?
  4. I'm interested in Hunting Ohio for spring turkey as well one of these springs. Any more info would be appreciated.
  5. This season will try to go to spots that I have taken birds before and try to fine tune my set-up. Meaning to find the right tree and move any clutter around that area and sort of set up a natural bind. I carry in my decoy bag 2 folding blinds. The ones that are 27" x 12 feet long. Like to have one set-up to block the area behind me, and one in front as well. I carry a pair of ratchet pruners and a small folding saw in my vest to cut some limbs off trees that are leafing out and stick them into the ground on the outside of my bind for more cover. I think being familiar with your area helps because you know by previous hunts the routes the birds take. I have toned down my calling of late and try to wait a little longer between calls.

    wtf snow!!!

I guess after not getting snow the most of January, we are sure making up for it now!!! Geeezzzeeee, to days in a row now with the Lake Effect snow already!!!
  7. I am in the same boat. I like the stuff put out by L.L. Bean, especially their Maine Guide Zip-Front Jac-Shirt.. You can order it with a Gore-Tex Windstopper lining. With this I would wear a Blaze orange hat and a vest. Prefer this Jac-Shirt to their wool parka because of the weight factor. Nothing stands out more than Blaze orange in the woods, and although it's not a law to wear, it's makes so much sense to just to be safer in the woods.
  8. I tried a couple steps on the market. The Cranford EZ climb steps are the easiest to screw into trees, there threads are fully machined. The problem I experienced was with their folding steps. Being 250lbs. and after numerous climbs into trees, I have found that the pin used for the hinge was getting bent????? After seeing that, and not wanting an accident to happen, I went to the one piece design steps. Like others have already mentioned, cost wise you can't beat the grizzly ameri-steps for the price, and they hold up very well. You want to get enough steps so that you climb up a little past your stand so that you can just step off the steps onto your stand. I also HIGHLY suggest a climbing belt that goes around your waist and then connects around the tree. That way you can have both hands free while hanging your stand while being able to lean back!!! While up in my "hang-on" stands, I prefer a very short tether strap around me and the tree rather than a safety vest. I don't like all that extra rope or looseness while up 18+ feet in a tree. With that short 1 foot tether between me and the tree, it gives me piece of mind. I also have 2 summit Viper climbers as well, and with those type of stands, a safety harness is the only way to go.
  9. Never seen or have been buzzed by one yet. I have had an owl above me while I was set up against a tree, and it was moving up and down that branch while making chopping sounds by opening and closing his mouth while starring down at me!!! My hair stood up because I thought he was about to swoop down on my head!!! I took off my hat and started waving it back and forth to let him see how big I was...lol!!! That must of done the trick, he then flew off!!
  10. For the life of me I can't work an owl call at all!!! But, I can do an impressive call with my natural voice. Go figure?
  11. Had a Gateway few years ago, but got a virus on it that took over control!!! Took it to office max to try have them get rid of that thing, they told me it was the worst one they ever seen and it was encrypted as well. Nothing they could do!!! So had to get a new tower by Dell this time around. Be sure you have anti-virus installed on your computer. Clicked onto a infected e-mail and that did it for me!!! Now I delete over 99% of everything that I get.
  12. Nice day to stay inside and keep warm. Will have to snow blow the driveway and a neighbor's across the street sometime this morning. More lake effect coming down later this afternoon through sat morning.
  13. Suppose to start snowing here late tonight right through till Friday?
  14. Danno, I am working on a draft for a custom pot call display as we speak. Pretty much have the design down, just have to get it into production. My computer desk has a couple of shelves that I store my box calls in. Have a total of 8 so far and a couple of them have been built for me by a good friend of mine from Wisconsin. These are my go to box calls during the spring season.
  15. Got both the Cabela's Spring Turkey and Midwest catalogs recently myself. Always fun to see what's new on the market!!
  16. Wish I had that 20 years ago......lost the entire lot in the freezer back then. The only warning I had was a red puddle of water
  17. Sportsman's show at the Fairgrounds in Hamburg is March 10-13th 2016
  18. Plan on seeing this movie shortly myself. Not sure if the girlfriend would want to see it?
  19. I enjoy my time in the woods and try to hold out for a nice racked buck every season. Do I eat tag soup....YES many times. I don't shoot does, or small yearling bucks, but those are just the restrictions I placed on myself. Nowadays, I much rather put my serious stand hours in during the bow season. Gun hunting is loosing it's appeal to me of late?
  20. That's almost insane!!! Over 1 BILLION!!!
  21. Road bans are in effect in Eden and Evans, NY. More to come by tonight into tomorrow with pending Lake Effect snowstorm
