  1. What a great buck, congrats to your friend
  2. Is this three 3' sections or three 15-20' sections?
  3. Bow got her don't today. Scored on a doe at 40 yards.
  4. Heard the first 2 shots already, wait 3...amazing!
  5. Depends on the stand location. Its crazy I know, but the one stand I prefer to hunt I typically arrive 1.5-2 hours before sunrise. I have to walk through a field that usually holds deer so I try to beat them there. Most of the others are 1 hour before.
  6. I shot at a doe 7-8 years ago in some really thick brush with a 12 gauge , open sights, at 30-40 yards. The first shot hit a tree and she stood there, the second shot hit a big limb and she continued to stand there, the final shot hit her behind the shoulder and she walked about 10 yards and fell over. I was shocked.
  7. Take the more mature one...which ever one that may be
  8. Disagree. If you hunt close ranges (under 100 yards), thick areas, and want maximum expansion from your bullet, it's a good choice. Assuming it's a PSP.
  9. All this talk about this buck and no pictures? I guess fragmentation is possible, but I you would have had to hit something pretty serious.
  10. Usually leave it dirty after the pre-season range check. I will clean it during the season (if I hunt in inclement weather) and then hunt with it clean.
  11. I'll be using the bow during rifle season too...crazy I know!
  12. Is this the buck you killed over the weekend by any chance?
  13. Sometimes you need to try 3, 4, or 5 different ammo types to find the one that matches the gun. I tried to switch from a Winchester bullet last year over to the Hornady superformance and I couldn't get a group less than 4-5" in my 25-06. Then I tried the Hornady SST and they shot fine. It may take some playing around.
  14. I have an old Hoppe's gun cleaning kit that my grandfather passed down to me. It is solid, unlike the new versions you get. Inside of barrel I typically start with a brush dipped in Hoppe's bore cleaner/copper remover. Follow that up with patches until no residue is coming out. Then usually coat the inside with a light coat of anti oxidizing lube. For the exterior of the barrel, I will generally use just a rag with Hoppe's all purpose oil. On occasion after hunting all day in the rain and then drying overnight I will need to use #0000 steel wool to remove some tiny surface rust spots, but that isn't very often. I also carry the tiny Otis gun cleaning kit in my bag during the season. You never know when you will need it.
  15. A shot at that range is tough from a stand. It is a pretty steep angle, and if you're higher than 15', it's a really really steep angle. I would bet most guys who bow hunt don't practice from that height at that close a range. It happens, hold your head up and smoke him during the gun season.
  16. It's tough to tell from that angle, would be nice to see if it's broke off at the base or if it just never grew. He's a young deer that's for sure. I guess if you saw him and noticed he was limping or walked oddly you could probably assume a car hit him. I personally would let him walk if he didn't appear to have anything ailing him...he could be a super nice buck next year. His frame is pretty stout.
  17. Just had this nice 2 year old come in. Hope he can make it another year!
