  1. There are states that honor it. Make sure the map is right and that any of their state restrictions are followed. It's well worth the homework before driving across the state line. All that said, if you are staying on the ground for transportation you can only enjoy NY and VT.
  2. If I would be putting heat on in there I would only do it if I intended to heat it up well. The first hing that will happen is you'll get condensation on things in there as you heat up. I like to heat it all the way so that goes away. I have seen some problems with drywall joints cracking with a lot of up and down heat changes but personally i wouldn't worry about that.
  3. I don't get how this could freeze hydrants?
  4. If only I had any long guns. All mine are out of state...lol
  5. How could they possibly? The certification is an administrative thing. There is no "charge" if you don't recertify. They will suspend you permit and you will have to turn in or dispose of the pistols.
  6. it is just for pistols. anything listed on your permit.
  7. Under your "stress" category, I've seen them drop very early with the stress from a wound. The one was an infected neck/shoulder area from a deep antler gore.
  8. long gun season and long bow season and still can't get the herd numbers down in many areas of the state. Let's face it. The majority of bowhunters take the season to kill the more pattern able bucks at that time of year. doe permits are an afterthought if done at all. I will give Doc kudos on this point, If situations arise where the reduction and take goals continue to be unmet there may very well be a next step. First and foremost we are management tools. I know guys that are squawking like crazy against crossbows and these same guys haven't shot does in years. Two of them don't even keep the buck meat they shoot. These are all in the high population area I live in.
  9. unfortunately it is no different than 100's or 1,000's of other NYS's arbitrary laws. Just think Safe act
  10. wow. gonna have to dig out my old game books. I thought that always was for semi's. There were more shotguns than the model 12 that were higher capacity too. How did they handle the Winchester 94?
  11. why would the model 12 have been illegal?
  12. It wasn't meant to wound and the biggest issue with performance like that is caused by the FMJ ammunition. What storm said about a CNS hit really is a big deal with that ammo. I don't totally agree with him in terms of other ammo. If you gel a persons' or animals insides they are going down right now. The design criteria for the rifle was to penetrate a helmet at 500 yards, retain sonic speed at that distance and and beating the 30 carbine for performance. it does all that but a .22 hole in and a .22 hole out without shedding all or most energy does little to put a target down without a CNS hit. Hell, I've body shot squirrels with a round nose 22LR and had them hold on to the tree and not fall until they bled out. with a hollow point that doesn't happen.
  13. but that is a concern even for the armed forces. That is why the m-16 came around. The ability for each soldier to carry more ammo and have an effective round (and that debate still exists) inside most common combat situations.
  14. it is an item that a LEO in the field can verify. (not that it means anything...lol). They couldn't scale the crossbow in the woods (so not sure what they will do with that besides check specs) or even check the speed. Reminds me of a story. I had...I mean a buddy had a 14' fishing boat all set up and decked out to fish some western fingerlakes that have boat and motor size restrictions. 16' and a 10 horse motor. Well it occurred to MY BUDDY that the 9.9 Johnson motor he had was the exact same motor as the 15 horse but it had restricter plates on the motor. Well my buddy knew a guy and they removed the plate and I believe needed a new jet. So with all the built in flooring and motor and batteries and down riggers and another guy in the boat and the cooler for lunch and beer, if he had to he could now get the boat up on plane and get off the lake should he need to. Not the slow plow through the water that the 9.9 had. Still purred like a kitten for trolling though. But to look at it it was a 9.9 and was labeled as such. you look at some of these models I can see how a set of stickers could be the visible difference between legal and not legal models.
  15. I'd like to see it in 10mm. Depending on how the bolt and extractor function I wonder if you could get the benefit of shooting with 40S&W for plinking. (Like many do with the Glocks)
  16. gritch---That feeling you get on your teeth when eating potato chips at the beach on a windy day.
  17. Dom, The pex is that easy. The crimped fittings work great. The pex does work with Sharkbite (and other manufactures) as does Copper and CPVC. You don't need sharkbite fittings to install pex. You can use their crimped fittings. If you do use the sharkbite fittings make sure you utilize the rigid plastic insert that comes with each fitting opening. You may get a by leavign it out on the cold side but you will get leaks with hot water. It keeps the pex to it's round shape so it seals well. Every sharkbite I have seen leak wit pex had this collar left out. It's also more forgiving for having the pipes freeze. I am not sure how it is rated but I had a 2 lines at camp freeze. one cpvc and one pex. The pex was fine when thawed. the cpvc split.
  18. What is your experience level for camping and hunting? It might effect some of the recommendations.
  19. I really wouldn't suggest it unless the gun was designed for it. I have a 410 and while it would chamber a 45LC it is a fixed full choke barrel and that is down to under .4". do that math on a 45 caliber bullet and I wouldn't want to see what pressure could develop during that squeeze.
  20. you think he will pass if he isn't 18?
  21. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8310.html Q: Is it legal to use decoys and electronic calls to hunt deer? A: Both decoys and electronic calls are legal to use for deer hunting in NY. You should exercise caution when transporting a deer decoy to and from the locations in the field. Some hunters wrap a strip of blaze orange material around the decoy when carrying it. Q: Can I use an electronic call for coyote and other furbearer hunting? A: Yes. You may NOT use an electronic call for turkey, ducks or geese.
  22. I think there is an absolutely legal way to do this Dom without a dealer. Not sure if your father or mother is alive but a rifle or shotgun can pass between parents and children/step-children without any check or paperwork. from you to your father or mother and then to your sister/brother and then to your nephew. all with no checks or paperwork. 100% legal.
