Have you ever had a miss you couldn't explain?

If the gun is zeroed I would about guarantee it was a small twig that didn't show in the scope. especially ones that are very close to you, the lens focuses right through them. one little touch and that bullet isn't headed where you think. I've had it happen. -
Easy to understand bowhunting regulations
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Brooklynbow's topic in Bow Hunting
it depends on what "privilege" you purchased. In the late season you can use your regular season tag to take a deer of either sex with the privilege you bought. if you bought a bow license you can use bow. if you bought a ML license you can use ML or crossbow. (I am talking state wide regulations. the crap down towards the city is all bets off for me...lol) -
Who sells shooting houses? (Finger Lakes)
Culvercreek hunt club replied to JFB's topic in Deer Hunting
what is "reasonable" to you? I have a contact that reps Redneck hunting blinds. The have the hard plastic ones that are the Cadillacs of the blinds and they just started a heavy duty "tent" style that is very very nice but cheaper. -
Shoot young bucks to let older ones mature

here is a quick video that brings up some other topics for causes of "poor racks" as well as a very good example of what taking a scrub buck so remove it from the gene pool could be doing . -

How does a corn field being cut change things
Culvercreek hunt club replied to goosifer's topic in Deer Hunting
Well one thing for sure. They won't be hiding in the corn on you any more. -
It kills me. 7 years ago I was doing a project at a college in CT. had to demo a cafeteria and there was an 8x8x8 free standing walk in cooler with 100% workign compressor, all stainless. didn't have a spot for it so it went for scrap. wish I had it now.

I just don't see it. maybe 4" average circumference measurements. 3" G-1 and g-2's (figuring a 6" ear) with the tallest tines 6", 15" spread, maybe 18" beams?

I know guys that age after they thaw the meat. on a rack in the fridge.

That we are pussies compared to a whitetail. lol

Probably sit at 110. I can't see it getting to 120

These are the kind of blood trails I like. 30-06, 120 yard shot. ran about 100-150 yards with the heart in half. The tracks ar on the right of the blood trail and I think the sprays out further to the left we the one chamber of the heart still pumping. CRAP. it's on it's side

Too many hunting accidents this year
Culvercreek hunt club replied to chas0218's topic in General Hunting
You nailed it earlier. If it's still going I am still shooting. -
I had about 14" at camp on the 23 of November. 3' in some drifted areas
-
I've read that. I honestly thought you were talking about the actual act of breeding. successful, I agree.
-
disagree in part. Good management is number based. if the numbers aren't there we shouldn't be taking them in any form in that area. No?
-
You are making bad assumptions. Any take should be planned based on population surveys. Including dawn recruitment. Wouldn't happen if done appropriately.
-
commonly accepted numbers are to maintain the herd size a 20-25% take should maintain. above 30% is required to reduce the herd size.
-
how are you getting to that number?
-
depends on the rifle. What is it.

Culvercreek hunt club replied to nyslowhand's topic in Deer Hunting
I am not going to waste breath to try and encourage passing a 120"-130" deer...lol. if we just passed them at 1.5 it would make a difference. I also don't buy into the high grading thing because most hunters would get an eye opener in what it takes to get a 3.5 year old or older. They are like hunting a different animal compared to a 1.5. They didn't get that big being dumb and you can't take the population of older bucks out every year. The'd still be there. -
years ago I remember my father telling my that last day or weekend up north you could take anything on you tag during the regular season. before my time and he said it crushed the population where they hunted.
