Camp / Cabin building packages ?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Salmon_Run's topic in General Chit Chat
I just built a 12x32. I priced it every way from Sunday. Rough cut was not cheaper than store bought lumber. It is full dimensional in most cases but that can come at a cost. Many times it is wet and not fully dried and it tends to twist like a pretzel if not used right away or stickered with weight on it. If you go full dimension pay attention to your rough openings. centers to center measurements dont work like you may bee used to. -

Lower the legal shooting distance for bow????
Culvercreek hunt club replied to ELMER J. FUDD's topic in Bow Hunting
Scenario #1. If you are further than the 500' at the point of discharge you are not breaking the law. I know it makes little or no sense. We can be over 500' away and shoot to a point closer but can't be 450' away from teh house and shooting away from it. I have no confirmed this with a bow but I have with a gun. I had an issue with a neighbor lady (I use that term loosly). DEC and sherrif was called on me on 3 occassions. My one stand is 700' from the house (and not even her house. She is an anti-hunter). They came out. I was actually hiunting brush that is in the opposite direction to the house. There is a field to my back, towards the house but very little activity takes place there during the day light. The Officers came to my stand location on all occassions and used a range finder to the structure. All 3 told me I was legal. and while it isn't a good idea to shoot in that direction of the house I could shoot to inside the 500' mark and be legal. Tha was gun but I don't think they view the bow any differently than a gun for the current law. Scenario #2---Good luck I have no idea. I know gys that do shoot in their basements and are not 500'. I guess it would be one of those you are fine unless something happens. Heck someone could have a heart attack or something and authorities get called in response. That could be all it takes to draw attention to the range. -
Looking for a Chevy.

I have had great luck with the Nissan Frontiers too. If I were young I would want a truck also....just not one with a huge engine...lol. -
Mathews Mission Venture vs. BowTech's Assassin R.A.K.
Culvercreek hunt club replied to crappyice's topic in Bow Hunting
What is the warranty on the Bowtech. I used to shoot aBowtech Blacknight2 and it was rock solid for over 10 years. I looked at the mission when I got my new bow last year I think theirs is lifetime for original purchaser -
How did you get started cooking ?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Pygmy's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
Believe it or not I learned much of it in Boy Scouts. Our leaders were very picky about the food...lol. We spend a great deal of time on different cooking techniques. If you can cook on an open fire....having a stove/oven makes it a breeze -
this looked like some pretty good info on the whole certified bait thing. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/33072.html
-
I know a lot of places closed up around me when that whole certified bait thing took effect. 2 places that I know of that sold to bait stores quit the minnow trade and only do crawfish because there isn't the same requirements.

NYantler....do you do 15 minute rounds too...lol
-
Heck I was going to come and watch. Figured you might need some back up with all the training instructor/buddies he had...lol. We could have sold tickets.
-
It is really hard to understan your gibberish but if you are claiming that a boxing round is 15 minutes....you had better at least try to learn to use google.

Kids? Who has them, and what age?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to burmjohn's topic in General Chit Chat
Just one for me. My daughter will be 17 in April. Only another year before she flies the coop. Will be a very sad day. She loves to fish and shoot but no hunting for her -
Bear are much heavier boned than a deer. I am sure you could put one down with a 243and a perfect shot but I would not recommend using one. The last thing I would want to do is track a wounded bear into cover with a round that small. Your other two choices would be better suited.

polaris winch problems
Culvercreek hunt club replied to ants's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
Well I would start from the battery and check all your points towards the winch. Hot side of the switches, selenoid and winch itself. go to ground against the frame since you probably won't have enough lead to get to the battery. if you have a good selenoid, battery is good and the winch isn't burned out there has to be a bad connection someplace. I know I asked this before but is the winch making any noise at all? Are you sure it is in gear and not free spool. Are you sure there isn't another switch? Mine actually has a toggle and then the switch onthe fender to operate. without the toggle in the ON position the whole system does nothing. -
I am sure it depends on the individual bear but I can't imagine a 22" class bear under 550-600 in a fall season. In Canada with a spring season you may get one smaller becasue of the hibernation weight loss.

I have shot silenced weapons. There are actually 2 sounds. the report of the gun (which can be reduced ,surpressed with a silencer) and the actual sound of the bullet breaking the sound barrier (which can not be controlled by a silencer). The most efectively silenced weapons are the ones that fire a round below the speed of sound. around 1,100 ft/sec.

You are probably right, Doe. I bet they updated the Furbearer section and never changed the general regulation. I thought I remembered from the old days that if running dogs you couldn't have shot bigger than #4s
-
is it? That was in the general regulations. I have never run them with a dog so I have no frame of reference.
