Get ready to faint....I agree with you Virgil...lol. When Dad and I were looking for a place the initial outlay for the property was the stumbling block. That is why we went the timber company lease route. Two reasons. We could get into it right away and they really have no interest in the land except to log it avery 15 years or so. I probably wouldn't lease from a private individual because they could change how they wanted to use the property. We did consider buying but to be honest I really like the area out here in Region 8. Dad is in 6 and wouldn't come this far. That is why we looked at the area we did in 7. When I no longer have him (and I hope that is many years) I will probably not keep the lease and will look for property around me. Until then we can use what we have like it is our own....JUST DON'T CUT THE TREES...lol

Oh now that is just plain BS. You obviously know nothing......It is shotgun area...lol

I think you need to buy about 70o acres in 8H. I will be more than happy to keep an eye on it for you while you are not around...lol

Meat Grinder

I don't know anything about that one. I will tell you this. at 14 pounds there is no way it has a 2.4 horse rated motor. I just got a 1.5 horse and it weighs 65 pounds. I don't remember seeing anything 3/4 horse and over that was that light. I am not saying it is impossible...just be on guard. Most grinders 3/4 horse and over don't have reverse switches...because they typically don't need them. a motor that size will take a chunk the size of the feed throat and not bog down. thrown a $1.95 with this opinion and you will have enough for a cup of cofee....lol -
my sight is adjustable. and uses a single pin. the graduations on the site are 20-30-40-50-60 but I have never shot a deer over 25 yards.

Our Biggest Problem as NY Hunters...
Culvercreek hunt club replied to sits in trees's topic in General Chit Chat
G-. I can't speak to the down state area but in 5,6,7 and 8 regions I don'[t see this. The state land does get quite a bit of activity on opening week but I know of 2,000 acre blocks with no cars near them after that. I gre uop hunting state land and I can remember lines of tail lights headed into the early morning on opening day. I don't see that type of traffic anymore. As far as youth in the sport.... they do have a lot of distractioins. I remember playing sports and there were gaps in the seasons. Now it is football running in to b-ball season.....soccer ..indoor...travel teams...these things are year round activities the kilds are in. I hate to say it but,Doc, the one thing that might actually help the outdoor sports would be a tumble of the market and a deep long run recession. so many distractions cropped up during the boom and the truely simple things of the outdoors lost their appeal to many. Just another thought. I know there is no magic bullet but when I think back on the guys I knew that taught me and I gre up around, many were depression kids....or kids of depression kids. the distractions were not there and it actually had a real life benefit to the sport....a full stomach. I have to say that with some of the years I have had in the last 5 I am glad my family isn't depending on my ability...lol. but there was a day when manys did. -
Ditto biggamefish...I won't bow hunt in a hard rain. Gun not a problem.

You will understand if I don't eat the food when you have a cook out...

FYI urine freezes well. Fresh un processed urine will start to taint and that totally changes the make up of it. The stuff you buy over the counter like tinks is basically pasteurized to preserve it. Urine is sterile but will grow bacteria very quickly when exposed to the air and warm temps.

I have taken glands off two of the bucks I have shot and hung them for my father at two other properties we hunt (hours away). I have no idea if it worked or if he would have seen the bucks he did anyway...but he shot one each time we did it..

Quick Spin Shrink Wrap/Fletching
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Cabin Fever's topic in Bow Hunting
From what I have talked to guys who used them, they have improved in the last year. very even shrinking from what I saw. The directions on teh one my buddy got sad. slowly dip straight down and then up. the ideal temp I think was 170 degrees. I like the fact that you can basically be anywhere and still be able to do a repair. He probably has 20 days of practice onthe arrows and except for the one he cut with his broadhead. nothing has happened. He shoots a TM hunter rest so I still can't speat from personal observation on the full contact rests -

that is what the directions said on the box.....lol....yes I do read them sometimes, don't pay attention to what my wife says -
I wasn't alone....it was in my buddy's pole barn...but it did land on top of me. One last effort to get back at me for taking him I think...lol. Funny now and we joke about it but it hurt like hell. There are now 3 welded eye hooks 1/2" diameter and they are bolted through the rafters. I did a load test with me and my buddy so that was over 500 pounds. I think I am safe this year
-
when trying to skin out a big buck, a hook used to hang up a bicycle does not have the required load capacity...lol. That, coupled with loading it on my wheeler cost me 7 trips to the Chiropractor. It is amazing how it waited to fall until I was totally under it and trimming around the neck... On a serious note. I lost my first deer last year. The shot still bothers me. I should have taken the extra step during the stalk to get rested on a tree. I believe I jerked the trigger and hit forward. Hard to believe that going into my 30th year of deer hunting I still get excited and can let it get the best of me. I guess I will quit when it doesn't ..lol

Here is a little part of an article I read. I think it demonstrates the loss described. Same bow yards/speed/KE 326 gr arrow 0/316/72 10/308/69 20/299/65 580 grain arrow 0/243/76 10/239/74 20/235/71 (Had to reformat from the article post) The actual testing results follow what would be expected from the theory and math discussed earlier. I would like to test the speeds out to further distances and will do so in the future to get a better picture of behavior downrange. It’s interesting to see just how much more the lighter arrow slows down and sheds its kinetic energy and momentum. The lighter arrow is losing speed at a rate 40-45% faster than the heavier arrow. At point blank range, the heavier arrow starts with 3.7 ft-lbs. of KE more than the light, and by only 20 yards it had 6.6 ft-lbs. more KE. I would say that is a significant difference! Of course the extra KE and momentum come at a cost, trajectory. The heavier arrow is going to drop significantly more at every distance and yardage estimation becomes much more critical. A three to five yard mis-judgement in yardage with the lighter arrow could still result in a clean kill shot on an animal, while with the heavier arrow it most likely would result in a much poorer shot or even perhaps a complete miss. That being said, having a fast arrow is no substitute for practice in yardage estimation or using a range finder when possible. Each archer needs to know their own equipment and make their own decisions on arrow weight depending on the game being hunted and where they are hunting. Know your equipment and practice with it constantly! I think bow hunting is a balance of a lot of variables. In my set up I was going for #1- shootablility. a comfortable set up that was easy to repeatedly shoot. I wanted the energy and a flat trajectory. well those things are contrary to one another so it is the balance I mentioned above. The heavier you go the faster it falls.....the lighter you go the faster it sheds energy. I think there are a wide range of combinations that will give us good results within our "normal" hunting ranges. One thing to think about that I think many forget to check when they are adding weight to their arrows to get the KE up is the balance point of the arrow. Simply put the final configuration of your hunting arrow should balance about 10% front of the mid point of the arrow. 30"----3" front....28" ---2.8" front. Think of how a dart we threw in the bars was weighted......an arrow weighted to heavy in the front (by adding a really heavy broad head) and an arrow heavy int he back ( by shootig a micro light broadhead- heavy fletchings- and lighted nocks) will have more erradict flight than a balanced arrow. We spend so much time getting out bows tuned just right and many (me included) don't take the time the get the business end of our sport tuned in.

I did Geno. I picked up the Hoyt Element. Can't wait to get it in the treestand. I was thinking of running up North this weekend but I may have to wait for our SZ opener.

I know....I have had a change in mindset with this new bow purchase. was less concerned about break neck speed and went for smooth and quiet. Never had a deer jump the strig with my old one but I think it was because it go tthere before the sound did...lol. I was shooting 74 pounds on that one....decided to take it a little easier on the shoulders now.
-
I am only shootig 65 pounds on my bow. that is max for it.
-
It is all about energy. That is the combination of wieght and speed. Ideally the best shooting combination with the highest KE . I actually went with a heavier arrow ont he new bow because it shot better. at 5 yards the KE was still 74ft/lbs. I believe my arrow and broad head weight is 480. I would have to check my numbers to be sure but some bows will shoot better lighter and some heavier. An aweful lot like finding the round your rifle like to eat best.

They are working well on a buddy's arrows. I have heard horror stories about wear and durability though for guys using full contact rests like the whisker biscuits. He redid a dozen arrows in about 10 minutes once the water was heated.
