  1. What I have found is ....I have 2 pairs of glasses. Both cause the point of impact to be in different spots....and different from my naked eye. They are both the same prescription but one set is progressive bifocals. I think the perimeter of the lenses are ground differently and the refraction is different. Caused me a few issues because at times of mist and fogging lenses I would not wear them. Try I some time....look across the bridge of your nose and turn your head just a bit focusing on a fixed object. It appears to move because of thw refraction....poses a problem for that sight pin location. My POI is 6 to 8 inches different without my glasses at 20 yards. Just reinforces...practice just like you hunt
  2. And that is an honest from thw heart reply that I can expect. I get a little fired up when folks make quotes and state facts that aren't true or are misleading. Thanks for the honest response
  3. Funny Fairgame, I have seen a lot of assumptions and that type of talking from the AR proponents in the thread. not much from the opponents. I have seen boasts of 77% support based on 2% of the hunting public in that area. I do not dispute that letting the bucks walk will result in older bucks. I do have a problem with imposing restrictions on the hunting public based on flawed information and herd ebnefits that fly in the face of logic. Hell, even the NYS DEC says the benefits are inconclusive on there site. So if we are tallking out our a-- at least our heads aren't so far up that our mouths cant move ...like the AR proponents seem to be.... Hey if the majority of the public thought bow hunting was cruel and inhumane.....should we follow that crowd too? bet I could take a 2% sample and get any results I wanted. It is about imposing your will on others. AR do that and I know a few guys that are for it statewide. I would never invite them to my camp. not because of that but because their values don't reflect mine. The experience is what I am hunting for. The venison in the freezer is a bonus...the horns are like a picture... a reminder. No one or group should dictate how we choose to have that experience...within the limits of the law..of course
  4. Sits...hate to disagree with ya but I really wouldn't use Item 4. It is screened gravel product and not crushed. It has a tendency to roll in surface applications especially if the road bed is above grade and not restrained on the edges. I would ust a crushed product and the cost of rolling is minimal compared to the regrading when uneven settlement occurs. If he is in Little Falls there is ample supply of both crushed gravel and Limestone products and if he gets a great deal on millings after a few years it will be like concrete.
  5. SO to be totally accurate---2.3% want AR....that is not true but just as true as saying 77% want it...lol
  6. OK...I just pulled license sales for Sullivan and Ulster counties for 08-09 season...Best I can tell it approximates the area of AR. total license sales that would have had a big game tag associated with them: Sullivan-6786 Ulster-7368 Includes resident and NR DO that math percentage and you tell me if they took an adequate sample of the hunting public. An as a matter of principal---if there are state land tracts in those areas I have a say in opposing AR there---because I PAY for that say.
  7. I agree Doe...I could set up at a trail head to a plot of state land and canvas that many...WTH...those numbers are a drop in the bucket compared to those that are in those areas.
  8. no....77% of those polled. If you really want to do this then have each license holder(when they buy their license) fill out a vote. Polls are not a fact and numbers can be manipulated.
  9. So what you are saying is...majority rules. You are ok with imposing you will on others as long as the majority of the group feel that way? I understand the desire to take a great buck but let me ask you this. How will you feel on that day when you find something you enjoy, threatened and since the majority do no agree with you will you go quietly along with them?
  10. You guys are going to hear me beat the same drum I always do....the difference between the AR folk and the rest of us is simple. We are happy with what we have and do not choose to IMPOSE our views on others. THEY, however are trying to impose their views on other hunters and diminish their hunting experience. If you want to practice it...do it...don't tell others how to hunt. and just to clarify one point. There is NO proof that increasing the number of bucks in a heard is biologically better for the herd. It may be better for the HORN HUNTER but does nothing for the herd. In fact there is data that suggests increased buck numbers may diminish the health of the herd. survival of the fittest and you don't need a 4-1 ratio to keep the doe population breed. my 2 cents
  11. let me guess....500 acres, a new 4x4 and a new 4wheeler?
  12. Oh for God's sake-----you two start kissing and making up I will quit the forum...lol
  13. WNY..I don't believe DOC ever said he wouldn't let someone in. He justs want the contact. That is really the only was to assure the person is legit. Is that level of respect too much to ask. I really dont think that is being unreasonable and i concur 100%
  14. Missing the point Orion....Bottom line...It is HIS land..period...If it was that important to the hunter needing to go in there....call him before the season and talk to him. Those who wait till an animal is down have no one to blame but themselves if they loose it. Take responsibility for ones own actions and don't pawn "your whoa is me" on some one else. (not you personally but anyone who won't take the time to do the leg work). Lets face it ..how many peopl go and hunt a new peice of property on the spur of the minute. Do we wake up one morning and say I will hunt this nice spot I saw over across town...no...we know where we are going to hunt. Make appropriate arrangements.
  15. better yet....cage match....hand to hoof/horn...let's see the boys in favor of AR balk at a huge set of horns then..lol
  16. Federal Premium barnes expander tipped bullets since they came out....before that the same but untipped and those were in 3". The energy on those is higher but they don't pattern as flat as the tipped. I went through a pile of slugs to decide on those. Gun just digests those better
  17. NOT me Doe----and since you have to be trending to the more primitive side to be a real hunter I am selling all my stuff and lobbying to have spears added as legal implements
  18. I'll invite you up next year....lead sled...2 guys over the weekend..are you kidding me? You don't need to be superman...between pistols...rifles...muzzleloaders....probably a 5000 round weekend....we try to get together every other year for it. As far as not believing in the 200 yards for a sluggun...try it on paper. It might surprise you. These aren't your grandfathers slugs. If I wasn't capable a consistent shot on paper I would never try it in the woods...well they were field shots.
  19. That is just what I want...a propane rv fridge...I don't need a big one. Haven't seen any on there lately....lol....bet half my camp came off there...
  20. Same thing happened with a buddy of mine last year on a beautiful 10 point bow buck.....the LO was parading it telling everyone he shot it. The DEC officer couldn't even make any headway with the goof
  21. I really think that since yiu are not introducing something that isn't already there, they wouldn't have an issue....kinda like shaking an apple tree
  22. Now there is one I bet most CO's haven't heard..."Honest Officer i am using the salt to melt the snow, not attracting deer"...lol . In my permantent built ins I use to use a perice of masonite that I laid down b4 I left the stand. When I got in I would pick it up and slide it behind my seat. All the ice and snow came up with it. I also use to get cheap black paint (discount mis-mixed at lowes and had them remix it for dark brown or black) and throw some kids play sand in the can and paint the platform and ladder rungs. reall good non-slip coating. Used a big bristle wall paper brush to slosh it on.
