  1. Great looking pic of a fawn and poult killer. Hope he crosses paths with you during season !
  2. Hard to even think about your situation. Sincere condolences. She was obviously lucky to have you and you were obviously lucky to have her. Hold on to the memories !
  3. Lol. As the duck dynasty boys would say.... He gone
  4. Lots of knarly bone. Almost touching out front. Sweet. And at 6am he's coming from bed, things looking good for you ! Knock him down
  5. Jeez, I've learned a ton. Where to start.... Tbone loves Cheetos, u must say "smoked em" no matter where your shot lands, guys in sitka cloths are cooler than you, yeti coolers are bear proof, Jim shockey is like chuck Norris only Canadian, the buzbiss family owns most of Louisiana and they have a pet deer, sheep hunting is hard on the knees, Tim wells calls every buck big Louie ( mind you I watched ten episodes thinking he was after the same buck till he killed it 3 different times). That's all that comes to mind for now. Hope I was able to pass on some useful info !
  6. I have learned over the years that scent prevention is far superior to scent attractants. I've been investing my money in scentlok, scentblocker etc. It's paying off for sure. If you have "local" bucks on cam leave em alone. Stay away from the cam as long as possible. If you stay out of their core areas as much as possible pre season and be 100% sure the wind is right for your stand when you do hunt, you may see them before they start chasing tail or even late season when they come home. I shot my biggest buck to date by (imo) leaving his core area alone till mid oct, and taking the road up to the neighbors house and coming in downwind vs what I had done years before where I checked cams weekly and taken the trail through the woods from the house. I would venture to say he used to watch me come in to my stand and would lay there or slip away even though the wind was right. Now, it's how I always hunt !
  7. To jump in here,a and go way off topic I'd recommend you start with the basics, I know you said still hunting, so I'd recommend getting out in the woods NOW and scouting. If you have some private land to hunt on and some extra $$ get a trail cam close to where you may be hanging a stand or making a blind ( if you can't swing the stand$). Find a busy run and start recognizing the average wind patterns. Read up on every topic you can in regards to whitetail habits, even if you take one tidbit from ten articles I promise you won't forget them and they could land you some good deer. I guess what I'm really trying to say is kudos for wanting to get range time and learn about weapons and safety, but hunters also need to know about what they are hunting. As far as the gun question, any reasonable caliber weapon will kill a deer, if you spend the time scouting and let them come to you, putting one on the ground WILL happen no matter what you buy. Still hunting though, get good with the open sights as they will never ever fail you and can go out in any weather and through anything. My .02
  8. I'm not saying they aren't hitting mast, but staying out of the sun ! I've noticed alot of daytime activity to and from water and bedding. If you have a cam between those two you are sure to rack up pics, literally.
  9. Well, what I carry depends on the where and the when. I hunt mainly 2 zones, one rifle one non. So, opening day is usually in slug zone and I have the 870 express mag. It's also my "rainy day" or thick brush drive gun. Guess u could say it's my "beater". If it's clear weather and I'm on stand in the southern tier I take my late grand fathers rem 700 in 6mm. After blood has been shed and I have meat in the freezer I start carrying the t/c omega smoke pole, but only if the weather is dry. So to relate to your story, we usually only have 2-3 guys at camp, and I seem to have the rack full of barrels varying in length, lol. Gotta be prepared.
  10. At least they didn't steal your cam...
  11. Cancel this post . I man'd up and got a new one. Camo/stainless. Should get it this week sometime. Now for picking a scope....
  12. Class act. Don't want to hijack your thread but I'll throw in a few sets of camo overalls, some face masks, a reversible jacket and bibs, might have some gloves etc. Most is xl some large. All used but better than nothing and could be used by somebody less fortunate. I'm around Buffalo and could meet any evening.
  13. Coy-wolf. Or big dog that would look great on your wall
  14. Have seen up to 8 hens together with ZERO poults. I'm nervous. Not sure what the deal is. I know we have a fox and yote problem but something seems "wrong"
  15. Young growth corn and soy is a tasty treat. Once the beans grow, if they do in this draught, u have by far a great food plot. With no cover close I'd be glassing first and last light to see where they are coming from/going to. Hopefully wind is on your side. Pray for rain
  16. I am more interested in the bolt action. 1st time I need a fast follow up shot and fumble for a slug I'll be kicking myself. Granted, accuracy should mean one lethal shot, but nothing ALWAYS works how we want
  17. 220 slug gun. Still on the hunt for one. Stainless is a plus. Let me know if anybody gets an eye on one. I'm in Erie county and would prefer to not go too far. Just trying to save some bucks on a new one. If I can't score by September... new it is. Tia
  18. Not a shot or sound yesterday in 9f. Haven't heard a gobble since opener here. Did half day here then drove to franklinville yesterday around 10. Of course, at 1130 3 birds start gobbling. I split the difference but they weren't coming in. Had to stay close to home today in 9f. Still no gobbles here
  19. So I got 2 pm's that have disappeared and I cannot remember the users. I'm dropping 3k to 35,500. Again, if something happens quick, we can setup a may 1st contract so you can get after a Tom or 2. Last visit a few weeks ago I saw a heathy flock with a few dragging beards...
  20. Little update to anyone following. We need to move fast on the sale, so there is a definite price change. Anyone interested please contact me ASAP and save me the hassle of Craigslist.
