Ok this has been on my mind for a long time. I'm on Long Island and some people use Bamboo as a natural screen. I often thought about planting some at my camp to see how the deer would react to it. I know it spreads like wild fire and can become a problem. Well today we were working at a house in a wooded section of the North Shore of Long Island. They had a bamboo patch in the back yard. Deer are everywhere in this area so I wanted to see if there were any rubs on the bamboo. I was surprised that there were a bunch rubbed up by the deer. Actually we busted out some bedded doe from the patch. Anyone have any information they can weigh in on. I like the tree but I think it may be impossible to control once established.

Amazing! I still tell the story about shooting a big old buck. This was back in 91 and slugs still had cardboard wading. There was a lump in his leg I opened it up and out came the cardboard. BTW his other knee was swollen like a softball.

Stand up is best for organization. Does the meat stay at the cabin year round? What do you do if the power goes out for a couple of days?

I don't shoot over 30 yards. all of my bow kills are 20 yards or less. -
NFA maybe NY needs to make getting a license easier. I'm going to take myself as an example, please if you think I am wrong let me know. I have a great place to hunt. Had 1 kid so far come up and get hooked. I have two daughters. They both showed interest to hunt but had so many other activities going on it was real hard to make it happen. The hard part was getting them certified. Why can't it be done 100% online? If it was easier to get a license it would be easier to shoot up to the cabin for a quick weekend to see if they like it. I'm just putting this out there because my girls are just so damn busy with sports and studies I would like to see an easier way for them to hunt.

First-light replied to longislandbowhunter's topic in Region 1
Thought you could just go buy a 1c doe tag at any time? -
Foods been pouring in from friends. Chicken cutlets, pulled pork, chicken soup and great desserts. Nice to have this in a time of sorrow.

We have Sitka deer on Long Island. No need to tag them and take as many as you like. During season.

I lost my Dad three weeks ago. Now my Mother in law is in hospice. I can understand death especially when my dad lived 86 years and my mother in law 85. It's just a huge toll on my kids. This woman raised them. We both had jobs sometimes opposite hours and she was there to fill in the holes. She was a great Italian Nona that could cook up a storm but as gentle as the breeze when you needed comforting. We will go see her tonight. I will pick up my daughter from college tomorrow and bring her home. After that I hope God calls her home soon.

When I had my route I was stopped at a crossing for a train. It went by gates went up then came right back down on top of my truck. I kept going hearing the gates against the top of the truck. Thank God because a train came right by after I got out. Pulled into my next stop and told a few guys there. They told me another guy was killed there a few years back from the same type of thing. Blows my mind

Ever try Swietzers in the area. They are pretty good.

Bath is about 10 minutes from my place in Howard. Excellent hunting in the area. Just have to find the right place. State land start with DEC maps and go from there. GL
