Kids are at camp in 8P. saw a few does and one nice 8pt. Wind is pretty bad but there is a nice coating of snow on the ground. They are freezing their asses off! The grownups show up tomorrow for 9 days....can't wait!- 10374 replies

I have seen deer this year on Long Island where I have never seen before. I expect that big one I posted last week eats the pavement. He is way too close to 25A where its 50mph.

Happy Birthday!

Here is the game plan. This week we have three hunters going to the cabin Thursday through Sunday. My brother and I get to the cabin Sunday. We are bow hunting all week then gun hunt right though Tuesday. Looking forward to a safe great season!

That deer is magnificent. Could you imagine if he had good size browtines........oh my deer! lol -
Pictures were taken this morning next neighborhood over from mine, North Shore LI. Not too many spots to hunt thats why they are growing big. It was chasing does. Couple blocks over is a main road if it keeps this up it will be road kill. He is a pretty big deer all around!

The only thing I like about it is the time in the evening at the cabin after the evening hunt. Just like sitting around talking and it not being 11:00 before you go to bed......just me!

Just amazing how every part of the moose is white.

It's pathetic we had three groups. Now town was very busy with kids hitting up the stores. I just remember staying out filling up my pillow case full of candy in my neighborhood. Not anymore I guess. My 14 year old went to a party but thats the age where you break away from going house to house. I guess more for us!

I shot my first with the bow. Slammed it right through the back into the guts. Arrow stunk so bad. I tracked it for a while. Actually took a break cause I thought it was just up the trail with amount of blood lost. Called my brother in law to see what to do with it. Agreed to have the hide tanned. Started following the blood trail and jumped him. Went way down hill and I gave up. Being honest I felt sort of torn up not following the dog. As I write this maybe I should have. It was 30 degrees in the morning and warmed up to 50 by the time I stopped tracking him. I was a pool of sweat. Maybe selfish of me or not.

We hunt an area that is public. We are way back in and have had stands there for a long time. Some of the cam pictures would amaze you at the size of the deer roaming around. You can't see forever there is a lot of ground cover and its just plain old hard hunting.

Hey Dan good luck this year. Very familiar with Cortland, have some rentals at the college.

He will never give it up. Too competitive for spots on the Island. We have a friend that has 4 acres in an exclusive north shore town loaded with deer. He sets up in his back yard and shoots some real big ones. The neighbors are all for it cause there are too many. He can see his house from where he hunts.

Close but not Bear Spring. This was over by Campbel brook. Off of Morton Hill road.

Had some nice signs I made stolen last year as did my neighbor. They took all the ones that were metal mounted on plywood. Dirty rats......

I used to hunt a huge track of land in Roscoe. Very secluded other than opening week you probably won't run into anyone. Years ago it was good hunting not so much anymore.
